The National Zoological Gardens of South Africa, located in Pretoria, is a 210-acre zoo and research hub that offers a diverse range of attractions. Visitors can explore the reptile park, inland aquarium, and extensive collection of exotic trees. The zoo is home to over 3,100 animals representing more than 500 species across various categories. It's dedicated to conservation efforts with spacious enclosures that mimic natural habitats.

My family absolutely loved the day at the Zoo! The gardens and enclosures are clean and well kept, the staff is super friendly and the animals are simply amazing. The zoo has every kind of animal from birds to fish, and reptiles and mammals. The zoo is now a permanent feature on our visits to family in PTA

Parking: R30, Adults entrance R120, Kids entrance R80.Beautiful array of animals from Africa and other continents alike. From zebras to koalas, an aquarium to an Australia section, there's enough for a day visit at the zoo!Golf carts are available for R150 an hour, kiddies carts available from R100 for the full day (+ R20 deposit). There could be improvements to the bathroom facilities. There's also quite a few areas under construction, shut down cable services, no kiddie entertainment operating yet its there, or animals empty habitats but I would assume it is recent and they are preparing for better services.

Rafeeah A — Google review

Few enclosures and few that are in a good condition. Little water for the animals. River very polluted though they advocate against litter. Seems most of the zoo "is being renovated". ...Goodness knows for how long. Pathetic to put it nicely.

Louis D — Google review

Lovely place. But it is very big, took about 3 to 4 hours to see at least most of the animals. There are places to buy ice cream inside and also have picnics. Overall lovely experience. And oh they take a picture of you when you come in and the album costs R250. The photos are beautiful like the one of my friend and I, that one is studded with watermarks cause we didn't pay for them.

Nontobeko N — Google review

Thank you for Hosting us, the reception was welcoming, the man doing parking tickets at the gate, to the entrance the ladies were so groomed and switched on , they suggested, offered all we might need as we began our tour, even the staff we met on the way were so helpful, guiding us. Thank you again for good service and keeping the Zoo so well maintained..

Keith N — Google review

Entrance fee: adults R120 and kids R80. R90 for students with a valid student card. You get a good welcome at the gate and picture taken, which if you agree upon leaving, you pay R270 for a photo book.Ice cream, snack and refreshments areas throughoutYou can rent a cart (I'd advise you to do so for a better experience - unless you don't mind walking long distances)Overall good experience.

Would be nice to go back when all the maintenance has been done. Not many young animals most old with not more than 1 friend per cage. Lots of birds ducks and bucks. It could be better hopefully after and if the maintenance is completed it will be worth the $ tripRight in the middle of town. Shops, kids trains, cable cars and many areas closed off for now.

Victoria N — Google review

Our visit was on a Friday at the end of June.Upon arrival we received the feeding times sheet. We took the kids to see the bear feeding as per the schedule, but were informed that all the bears have died. Why have that on the feeding times roster?!We then attempted to see the penguin feeding, but there were no penguins to be seen. Anywhere. The Flamingos, Pigmy, Lemurs, Lions, Leopards and Cheetah sightings were an absolute delight. The kids loved seeing these.Unfortunately the sea display in the aquarium area had almost half of the displays out of order or empty. The park gardens are still green and beautiful in places, but there’s a large part that is unkempt. The river / stream flowing through the Zoo is absolutely disgustingly strewn with litter and milky-green with a stench. The huge bird cage used to be an attraction, but is now overgrown with weeds and all kinds of plants with the cage completely in disrepair. It does not look like the cable cars are currently working. Possibly due to winter season. The staff were friendly and helpful.

Ludwig E — Google review

Great experience with my family. We enjoyed seeing different animals at the zoo. There were electric carts for hire for $150 an hour that could be used to go around the zoo. We opted to walk, and we didn't regret the experience.

Sali — Google review

What a beautiful place (it used to be). I remember travelling from Mpumalanga with fellow primary school mates and teachers to see all the fauna and flora. Sadly it hasn't held up to its former standards but still a nice place to visit, especially for the little ones. As an adult I just can't help but compare everything to what it was before

Zak P — Google review

The zoo has always been a great experience and are beautifully kept. Some enclosures are empty which is sad, but there is still a great variety of animals that all are well looked after.

Marli L — Google review

Incredibly disappointedwe were at the zoo approximately 2years ago an today 08-Jul-2023, was the complete opposite experiencemany enclosures are empty, some enclosures had only one animal, 60% of the aquarium's and reptiles (snakes) glass boxes(tanks) were empty.and to top it off, the apies river that flows through the zoo looks and smells bad

Werner S — Google review

The place was run down and very few animals. The enclosures were dirty and the animals looked miserable. However the reptile enclosure was one of the highlights of the TRIP and hiring the golf cart to drive through the zoo. It's a MUST if you are going to visit the zoo.

Wesley G — Google review

Our visit to the zoo was a very sad and disappointing experience. The cable car looks to be abandoned and was out of order. There was litter (plastic bags and cigarette stumps) within the animal enclosures, holes in roofs and just overall looks completely neglected. Even more concerning was that the animals look depressed, under stimulated and the enclosures which used to have beautiful water features are completely dried up. I did not see any enclosures besides the vultures that had fresh water. Even the giraffes had no fresh water, just a small bright green pool of rancid water. The elephant which is a herd animal is standing completely alone in a very small enclosure, completely unnatural. The wolves were in an enclosure that was so small it felt cruel. Three lion cubs, also in an enclosure that was unnaturally and obviously far too small. We also unfortunately saw staff feeding the birds and limas, throwing the bowls down with absolutely no care or consideration at all. One of the bowls nearly impacted one of the parrots. We were absolutely disgusted by the attitude of some staff toward the animals. We will never come back. We hope and pray the animals do not suffer for too long in those undesirable conditions.

Cara L — Google review

Animals were all in good condition. Not as bad as some reviews make it to be. Some construction still in process and signage a bit of an issue. We could not find the leopard or sloth and the owls' cages were empty, but we had a great day and the staff were all very friendly and helpful. Took a photo at the gate and was able to purchase a photo book with different backgrounds on our photo. Littering seems to become an issue later in the day at picnic spots, but it was clean in the morning so the Zoo caretakers need help from visitors to clean up after themselves. Was a great experience for us

Chanelle J — Google review

Seriously delapidated and unkept.A stunning example of mismanagement and lack of focus. You will waste R30 here for parking and R100 a head to visit a poorly kept poorly-populated zoo. There are some animals but Most cages are empty and grass and weeds stands knee high everywhere. You will agree with me that this place is not worth visiting. The cable car is un-useable and will cost millions to repair.Sad sad sad

Louis ( — Google review

It's a nice zoo to picnic. Alot of enclosures are empty. This zoo has such wonderful potential yet seems it's very neglected. It's really sad to see. It has a river passing through it but has so much waste inside. This could be the most beautiful zoo in the whole county if treated better. Must use the golf cart its the best 300 to spend for two hours. Half a day here is enough to enjoy it. I hope to go there in future to see it improvements.

Seif K — Google review

Such an amazing place to visit. You can see almost all the animals there including penguins. 🐧You may have to walk a long distance but it's all worth it.The Zoo people feed the Tiger and Lions at 14:30 in every consecutive days. So, if you go there by that time, you can see how they eat their food.It was R70 for children and R100 for per adult. Please don't go on public holidays coz they won't open the aquarium.Overall it was an astonishing experience.Although I feel really bad about being selfish and enjoying all animals being kept caged but I hope they are well kept even if that won't compensate anything.

Ann M — Google review

Wow, wow, wow! I’m shocked and appalled at the state of PTA zoo. When we arrived we found it strange that it was so quiet in comparison to JHB zoo - we now understand why.Majority of the enclosures are closed and dilapidated and the enclosures that are actually open look unkept. Please, get animal welfare involved and re-home these animals.100% wouldn’t recommend.

Monica F — Google review

Great place to visit. Was able to ride along with a staff member who showed us things behind the scenes. The entire visit was great and enjoyable. The animals were well cared for and saw several feeding activities.

Asheed A — Google review

It's certainly the better of Zoological gardens in RSA. This zoo has plentiful of space, picnic areas, enclosures, education as well as feeding times and events. At the moment, alot of the enclosures are under maintenance or revamp. The on site golf carts will save you lots of time and do come in handy as the zoo is large. There are 4 or 6 seater electric carts which require refundable deposits and a valid drivers license. You will find (when all enclosures are done) big cats and Owls to Gorillas and from red pandas to penquins. There is also a small educational aquarium, reptile area, arachnids and even komodo dragons. Most certainly a great option to learn, enjoy, explore animals.... 😉😎

Riaz L — Google review

Mostly a good experience, the animals seem mostly well cared for, and for the most part have a lot of space. The grounds however seem to not be cared for well, maybe because a lack of fundingThe old and dilapidated buildings are quite cool to see, as well as all the monuments from the 1900s. There aren't many signs for the animals of buildings either, which makes it a lot harder to tell what you're looking at sometimes

Channing P — Google review

Very disappointing, I was last at the zoo about 9 years ago and they were doing renovations. I thought that it was going to be improved but it is actually worse. The section they were working on is still being worked on and has not changed at all but more of the zoo is now under so called renovations, I think the renovations are just an excuse to cover a deteriorating zoo. Lots of the enclosures do not have animals in anymore, the sea aquarium is mostly empty, the Australia section was closed, the bird aviary is in ruin. Other reviews going back a year or two mention the same things so it is not just a temporary inconvenience, the entrance fee is then expensive considering you only get about 55% of what you pay for. I really hope things improve.

Kent W — Google review

Had a lovely experience. Even though some areas are undergoing construction, there is still plenty to see. The restaurant offers delicious food at a decent price. I would love to visit again soon.

Shanay B — Google review

It is a peaceful and beautiful place to connect with nature. Wonderful animals from birds to leopard, elephant etc.. You can picnic in those beautiful lush green gardens. This place is a gem.

Nana K — Google review

What a beautiful experience. Lots of animals to see. The animals are all well looked after, and the place is clean. The Pretoria Zoo is a must-see. You will not regret it.

Jennifer C — Google review

I enjoyed my day at the Zoo. Unfortunately it hurt seeing the tiger and other animals suffering from the heat and what I could see there was no water for them. The renovations from what I can see has been over years since construction has started. The cable cars were not working which was a disappointment and the restaurant was closed. The birds on the hill are all by themselves the grass is too high and they have almost no water and no food. We tried to feed them water but failed.

Ana L — Google review

Probably a lot more than I had expected. Great place to hang out and check out some animals. Be sure to get a cart (not included in entrance fee) as that allows you cover more ground in the time that you're there while also having a pretty laid back experience of the zoo. Food is whatever you fancy as they have plenty of stalls there, but you also have the option to bring in your own food, even your own braai if you like

Ramoloi M — Google review

We had an awesome day with the little 1 on a Friday. Getting the golf cart for the entire day immensely improved our visit. We were disappointed by the lack of care of the facility. There are lots of animals that are no longer at the zoo. There's a lot of areas that are under construction/refurb.

Alex L — Google review

At first glance, you’re met with a very large zoo, so expectations are high- you’ll be disappointed though. The state of the zoo looks like it was never refurbished, renovated or well maintained and it seems “stuck in the 60s”. They do have tigers, lions, elephants, giraffes, zebras etc, but other animals look like they’re living in bad conditions and don’t seem happy at all. Half the animal features are empty and the tiger enclosure fence is broken - large enough for a small child to crawl through. The aquarium looks like it hasn’t been touched since the 80’s and quality of features are poor. They do have golf carts to rent for R150/hr on top of the R100/person entrance fee which I think is robbery for this poor set up of a zoo. It’s also in downtown Pretoria - not the safest or best area. Looks like a typical government run institution.

Kyle R — Google review

So I visited on a rainy Monday morning 😅 in April.Pros:- I enjoyed the serenity. I felt like I had the time alone. Just me and the gorgeous animals everywhere. Ostrich, flamingos, vultures, chimps, elephants, giraffes, different birds, farm animals, donkeys, buffalo, springbok, elan etc.- Plus it was clean.- friendly staff-I think the price of 100pp/ adult is quite fair.Cons:- Lots of construction was in progress and they didn't have clear signs as to where to go and where not to access. Hence, My heart was racing so much cos i feared walking in on a wild animals privacy 💀- i could not visit the bridge area where the white lions, big cats, koala, etc were because on of the workers advised it was slippery because of the rain. (I HAD TO ASK myself cos i had doubts) imagine i didn't, it could have turned out dangerously bad.- No Signs or maps of the zooTried connecting to a QR code at the welcome desk and it was requesting i connect my bank card 💀💀💀 no bruhh

The Union Buildings in Pretoria are the official seat of South African government. The building is a 285 metre (311 yard) long neoclassical masterpiece with a Renaissance, Edwardian and Cape Dutch influence. Former president Nelson Mandela was inaugurated in this building.

Union Buildings are a MUST when visiting South Africa, so much history, grand architecture and cleanliness. Seeing the statue of Nelson Mandela in the flesh is something to behold, truly amazing.

Stunning architecture and beautiful statue of a leader that meant so much to South Africa. The gardens and fountains look exquisite, is well laid out and maintained. This is a great place to visit on a day outing to Pretoria. From here you will also have a great view over the city. The road towards the Building is a bit neglected, but don’t let that discourage you, the visit is worth it!

Well maintained and clean. Great for pick nicks and camping and temporary housing arrangement if needed. Close to other touristic attractions like the Voortrekker meuseum and the science meuseum.

The place offers a beautiful view of Pretoria CBD, University of South Africa and jogging places.I enjoy going there for a jog in the morning then a purposeless straw in the gardens in the evening before the place closes.

Union building Pretoria ...one of the greatest site for tourism and history. The place is well located with beautiful views for creating memories ❤️❤️❤️

As everyone has mentioned, the gardens are really beautiful and well kept! With many photo/selfie opportunities. 😉There are informative boards which help you to see what you are looking at, all around the grounds, and give some background.Absolutely worth the visit, the view over the city is beautiful, and you can drive over the mountain and see the city from the other side as well. The Khoisan (aka "Aboriginal embassy") are still camping out at the bottom (next to Mr Mandela's statue), they have been there since 2018. You can meet them and hear their stories, which is intense, but insightful.

Linel R — Google review

Beautiful place to visit with a stunning view of parts of Pretoria. It's easily accessible from different directions. The gardens are well maintained. But wow, the toilets stink. I hope they've improved since the last time. It's a shock to be surrounded by so much beauty and history, and get hit by the smell of dirty toilets. It's a disgrace. There's such a nice vibe here and for a moment you feel part of history as your eyes drink in those beautiful surroundings and the massive statue of Madiba. I love going there.

Olivia S — Google review

No entry fee is required. The upper area is well maintained. The garden is beautiful to be around. It’s a perfect place for a picnic or just “sight seeing”. The view of the city & the sunset from there are beautiful as well. There are a couple of photographers who will want to take pictures of you, but they won’t harass you. There are also a couple of homeless people/beggars who will ask for your food. There aren’t many security guards so it’s advisable to come in groups, always beware of your surroundings and stay safe.

Shalom M — Google review

Well manicured gardens and you are able to drive up to the buildings and park really close. Security is tight and you aren’t able to get into the amphitheater which is expected. You can park and walk down to the Nelson Mandela statue which is a hit with all the tourists. Watch out for the water sprinklers they do catch the stairway. Majestic and stunning buildings.

The Voortrekker Monument commemorates the history of the Afrikaner people and is one of the most popular tourist destinations in South Africa. The monument features a unique architectural design that allows sunlight to shine through an opening on the dome once a year (on 16 December) to illuminate patriotic words carved into the cenotaph, the symbolic grave of all pioneers who died during the Great Trek.

Always good to see historical places. This one being special due to my heritage. The gardens have been redone and looks great. The restaurants and shops are also beautifully redone and have a wide variety of items for sale. The FAK liedjie(song) garden takes you through the most recognized songs of the Afrikaans people. Suggestion here would be to have the tunes play by a button or a link to YouTube with the songs.

2nd time visiting and still finding new things to see. The gardens recovered beautifully after all the alien trees were removed. Very neat premises and friendly, helpful staff with two over 90's that needed help with wheelchairs. Loved the gift shop and restaurant with local flavours

Had a lovely walk around the monument. Grounds are kept clean and tidy. Staff knowledgeable and friendly. Found the museum fascinating, the art work, the tapestries and the artifacts just amazing.

We visited on 2 Sept 2023 , our first visit and we were pleasantly surprised. Always thought it was just a monument but what lovely grounds and gardens.Inside you get to work through different stages of the Voortrekkers , the different leadersSome really great art work, old wagons and various items. At the top you able to walk around and get views of Pretoria. There is a lift for those not able to walk the many stepsIt was really worth the visit even though the cost was a bit steep at R205pp , there is a discount for pensioners

The museum and its grounds are very well maintained. It is a lot bigger than I thought it would be. There is also a restaurant, gift shop, viewing deck, and small animal farm. N.B. there are a lot of stairs!!! It's definitely a hidden gem. Apart from the stairs, I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Awesome experience, just a pity no ATM's was available at the Antique event. Vendors lost alot of money because no atm was available (ATM normally there when there is events)

Riaan S — Google review

Very interesting to understand a part of the history of the Dutch and South Africa. It’s not just a big tower with amazing view over Pretoria but a museum that tells the whole (and sometimes bloody) story. Try to find/book a guide because the story comes alive. Two (different) gift shops and two (different) restaurants. I went to the ‘school’ restaurant (outside on the left when you leave) and very affordable and good food.

Martijn H — Google review

Beautiful historical place to visit, a toponim in Pretoria. Views from the top of the monument are spectacular. There is also a gallery inside. It takes some time to go through the entire building but is worth it. It is also surrounded by beautiful gardens with animal sculptures. There is a gift shop that is not crazy with prices. Plenty of parking even on public holiday. There was a market of antiquities nearby on the day I went, but not sure if it's a regular thing.

This is one of the attractive spots for Pretoria and Johannesburg.About 20mns drive from either city. You have to pay the entry fee around $15 (us) per person. There were some animals on the property.Monument had 3 floors to explore.Give yourself around 1.5hrs to explore the whole place. Restaurants also available.

I attended a car meet at Voortrekker Monument on 8 June 2024 and was surprised- didn't know that this was something that they’d consider hosting at all. It was a great evening, great vibe, extremely cold, everyone was nice and the turnout was amazing!

Nice view of Pretoria CBD from all angles. The Monument is full of history also available to learn. School kids allowed as well. Also good for team building with workers and family.Quite place with sounds of peace I liked everything about the place except Movements of guards they should be visible at all times and between the roads.

Wonderfully maintained site. Awsome tour guides. Very respectful of South African history in general. Would highly recommend this as a site that South Africans from all walks of life should visit.

The Monument is by far something to see as this is quite a pillar to ones culture, with a wide range of this to see and a lot of history. The prices around are fair and also cheap and there is a lot to do. Even the amount of wildlife is nice to see!And an added bonus is parkrun on Saturdays!!!

Willem J — Google review

Simply incredible! What an enriching experience with absolutely breathtaking views both of the rolling landscapes as well as the incredible interior of the monument itself. The grounds are so well maintained and clean and the staff are all so knowledgeable and ready to assist. Seriously a must-do experience.

I went during the afternoon. About 2 hours before the official closing time and there were basically nobody there. Many exhibits were closed already. No guide and very little information provided for people like me (foreign visitors who are not familiar with South African history). It feels to me the entire place is just for Boers to congratulate themselves. Definitely not worth the price of admission.

花雨馨 — Google review

i was truly amazed as a first time visitor, the way the monument is maintained is incredible. definitely worth a visit. The way the garden is set up is also truly sets you back in time as it shows you the journey that was taken by the voortrekkers. truly such a great place to visit.

Matthew P — Google review

A good experience but rather expensive to enter if you ask me.I assume the money is used to feed the animals that really( in my opinion) does not form part of the monument. When i arrived there there was apparently loadshedding so instead of telling us that they nevertheless sold us 2 expensive tickets (R230 each) and told us we can visit the museum, 90% of this so called museum was in darkness. When i asked them if they had lights i was told no, the generators cantsupport it. I had to try see everything with my cellphone light... Not fair.Ontop of that i arrived At 4h30 and was told AFTER i paid for the tickets that they close at 5.Terrible information and service from front desk staff. They just want your money it seems.Well i had to rush through the entire complex in 30 minutes at R230 cost per person.

Well kept, a lot of effort has gone in to preserve the heritage and history of our country. History that all South Africans should learn about and it is also wonderful to see how the Zulu culture and side has been brought in as well! Well done!

Christopher Z — Google review

Went with a tour group. Learn so much from. Our guide about the monument and the story about how the Dutch came and the struggles between them and the south Africans. Gardens looked spectacular, need quite a few hours to see the whole monument and climb to the top and see the gardens.

Libby S — Google review

Fantastic and interesting piece of South African history. Highly recommend especially on a clear day. The views are amazing. The ticket desk is at the bottom of the stairs to the right and not, as you may assume, at the entrance at the top of the steps. We learned this the hard way on a baking hot day.

Imposing structure, beautiful architecture. The souvenir store has some nice items in stock. You have to check it out when you are there. However, the story depicted here does not seem to match historical facts. Let's tell history as is so that future generations can learn from it.

Pretoria National Botanical Gardens is a botanical garden covering an area of 9 hectares in the city of Pretoria, South Africa. The gardens are home to indigenous plants and flowers from all over South Africa, as well as a variety of bird species. The gardens are divided into two sections by a high quartzite outcrop, presenting different natural moods.

A really well kept national treasure. It's huge, I was not able to go through all of it but it's such a beautiful garden with a variety of plants and flowers. Be sure to have picnic blankets and pillows for a relaxed afternoon

Dineo M — Google review

Went on a Saturday afternoon, surprisingly not packed and ample parking. Bring a card to pay for your entrance fee. Pack a picnic, I found there was more than enough shaded benches so we didn’t even use our picnic blanket (maybe on busy days it may come in handy). The bathroom were very clean.

Phume M — Google review

Such a beautiful Botanical Garden! It's well tended and cared for and kept extremely clean. It has a very diverse collection of trees, plants and flowers and even has a little plant history museum with lots of interesting information on what some of the plants were used for older times. There's a little waterfall and a few animals that can be spotted on your walk through the gardens. And if you feel like a break and some refreshments (if you didn't bring your own), there's a restaurant.Certain functions can be hosted there, but there's a list of items that's prohibited inside the premises, so make sure to double check on that beforehand.

Chantélle F — Google review

Nice walk and outdoor for adults, more than kids. I'd suggest a jungle gym or two for the little ones to make it more entertaining for them as there isn't much to occupy a almost 3 year old. Restaurant looks nice, looking forward to trying it some time.

Jacqueline E — Google review

What a great day we had for a picnic. It was unbelievably hot and luckily there were multiple treats available for us to relax under. Please is neat and clean. Some animals around.Awill definitely recommend for an outing with the family. There is a place to have lunch and also a waterfall. There is also a hiking trail if you are up for the challenge.

Francois R — Google review

Peaceful, well kept. lovely facilities for events. Restaurant service very good. Amazing walking trails !

Tania — Google review

I'm not sure where these other local guides come from, with their 5 star ratings, and I hardly see flowers in a bloom session. It's very dry, and beaches are all written on. It seems not even bothered to try to fix that, and fresh cuts in trees, ash amongst the nature just laying there like no tomorrow, can see how some plants are dying around it.This place should rather change its name to something else it's become more of a venue and graffiti crafting in benches and trees, unfriendly at the gate, they definitely love their phones way more than helping the customer, really bad attitude. At least the grass is green. Hardly see wildlife, but I guess all the clubbing performances chased them away. But for only a picnic, I'd say it's worth it some nice big trees for shade.

Scholtz B — Google review

We had a picnic and walked around. Beautiful gardens. On a Tuesday it is free to enter for pensioners, you only have to have your ID with you to enter.

Susan V — Google review

Had a great time strolling through the gardens on a weekday afternoon. Easy access with plenty of safe parking. Good variety of plants although it wasn't too colorful when we went in early March. Lots of green however which is a nice departure from the city landscape. Staff is super friendly and helpful and the entrance fees are extremely cheap. The waterfall and a nice easy hike with some elevation is a great way to breakup the flat areas with the hilly areas.

Victor W — Google review

Such a beautiful calm and relaxed space. Perfect to get out of the house, especially during Covid-19 timesDecent place to eat as wellThey offer adequate picnic options too

Leon R — Google review

This is the one of nature reserve in Pretoria. Enter fee is 40R. I did picnic with my friends and enjoyed hiking. There are beautiful water fall as well, you can relax.

The Pretoria National Botanical Gardens is a very nice place to visit. Their facilities are well-kept and clean. It's a lovely place to take the kids for a weekend picknick. You can also hold birthday parties and celebrations there. The relaxing environment is lovely and it feels like you are away from the busy city life. They also have beautiful hiking trails.

Estian Z — Google review

The garden is well kept and a delight for anyone who loves nature and indigenous plants. The waterfall in the forest was a wonderful surprise as it looks very natural, we even saw tadpoles at the bottom. The little cafe was friendly and refreshing after a long walk through the grass lands (which was full of birds and butterflies).

Deborah G — Google review

This is quite a vast but peaceful park with its various blooms, waterfalls and its variety of greenery. It is a place where you can spend the whole day just taking endless photos. There is a run organised there which happens on a Wednesday every month. Nonetheless, this is definitely a romantic place to be..

Kimson C — Google review

Beautiful place! Lovely to walk through and see the waterfalls. There was some very loud music and party happening next door, which kind of changed the ambiance, but overall a wonderful and worthwhile experience!

Mary L — Google review

Definitely worth visiting. This park has a lovely vibe and energy. The waterfall is so calming. Free secure parking. Labelled plants and a few animals. No dogs allowed. I will definitely visit again. Good for picnics and there is a restaurant on site.

Jewel O — Google review

Beautiful Area for Parkrun. I use this opportunity to pray while doing my 5 km walk in the middle of nature.its a lovely environment for family gatherings and picnicking. They also have a restaurant(Milkplum Cafe) within the vicinity that also caters to private events.

Shadi M — Google review

Glad I made the effort to come to the family picnic day that the school has.The environment is great and it is doing me good to be out in the open air. I can hear the traffic on the highway, but with these conditions it is soothing background "music".

Walter P — Google review

Different kinds of plants. The place is so peaceful and nice for picnics and celebrations. There is also nice food at the restaurant. Hiking, waterfall and alcohol is allowed in the premises.

Violet M — Google review

Great place to go for peaceful walk. Very green, clean and well maintained. Not alot of flowers though.

Roshni M — Google review

Great for a day in a garden, picnic, walk, admiring the plant kingdom and just to chill over a weekend

Karina J — Google review

This is by far a jewel in the heart of Pretoria, these gardens takes you away to an oasis that only you can create in your mind. I feel that every time when I go for a parkrun or trail run that the gardens have a way of calming me down and letting me enjoy the moment. If you ever get the opportunity please make a point of taking a walk or even enjoying a picnic

Willem J — Google review

Well taken care of and a beautiful space for events or just a relaxing picnic with family and friends, saw some beautiful romantic set ups as well. Next time I'm going for the hiking trail, seems fun

Sedi M — Google review

We decided to visit the establishment on my birthday, it was amazing, I had a picnic, visited the waterfall and just took in the environment. Highly recommended!!!

Kefiloe S — Google review

This place is beautiful, so great for a tranquil walk trough the sounds of nature, reading about the different plants and trees, just gorgeous! The happy birds manage to drown out the sounds of cars outside. Stunning for a picnic with loved ones or a blissful sit with a book under one of the beautiful trees if you fancy some time to yourself.

Jaydean S — Google review

Very nice experience. If you're looking for hiking trail, not the place but it has a paved trail and you tour around the garden. I got a good 5km walk. Right after my walk, I went to the restaurant, I love the menu and prices but the park isn't restricting picnic and great photo shoot location. Park has assigned place for making braai, considering it's a garden, fire must be controlled. Discovery health has park runs here from 07h00 on Saturdays

Phetolo M — Google review

Wonderful to see these gardens being so well maintained. We enjoyed everything the bonsai's, Ndebele medicine garden, Dassie walk, guinea fowls, and hawk's. Bathrooms so clean!

The Walter Sisulu National Botanical Garden is a large and peaceful botanical garden in Roodepoort, Johannesburg. The garden has several picnic areas, birdwatching trails and indigenous plants and wildlife. It is one of the great escapes of Johannesburg, and is great for the entire family to enjoy.

A wonderful place to find some peace in the city. The garden is pure pleasure for bird lovers and for those interested in our rich heritage of indigenous plants. Remember: Tuesdays are Pensioners Day and entry is free. PS: the restaurant is not bad either.

Beautiful park with a lovely waterfall. Great for picnics and hiking. Lovely place to spend a day in the great outdoors. Went on a busy day with a nice flea market and live performances.Great place for kids and adults alike, the kids play area was also good. The swings could be better maintained and so could be the toilets.Restaurant was okay too.

Shruti M — Google review

I love this gem of serenity in the midst of our urban jungle. The eagles were in full view today. My boys did the hike up the hill to get a closer view of their nests while I relaxed at the waterfall. We hadnt been to the park in a while and I had forgotten how serene it could be especially on a weekday morning. Kids will enjoy the wide open spaces with ample place to play, the rock walk and the swings. A definite must visit if you are looking some time out in nature.

Dirosh G — Google review

Very beautiful, well maintained clean park. Cash is not accepted in the ticket counter. Those who don't have debit or credit cards, ask help from other travelers and pay them cash.At the end of the park, there is water fall.Park your car at your own risk. There are security guards at the parking lot. Bolt taxi is available in this area.Good place for photographers. There is no need to get permission to take pictures using a tripod and a professional camera.

Aranganathan S — Google review

The route wasn't long, like less than 4 km, but the trail was steep, the elevation was on point, and it was rocky and slippery. If you're not used to climbing up and down, this place is a bit tricky. I loved this place; it gave a good workout in a short time. When you go down, there's a beautiful waterfall waiting if you are willing to take pictures and just freshen up your eyes after the hike. One restaurant and a picnic area are also available for you to enjoy. If you like to obverse and watch some birds around, they provide a bird hide inside the botanical garden itself. The ticket cost is R80.

Sara L — Google review

One of if not the best parks in Johannesburg! They have lots of picnic areas, I love the many benches you find around in the gardens (look out for them), they also have a restaurant where you can buy food or you can bring your own.Love coming here, especially during the week as some weekends its just too full.Great for the entire family, great place for you to cone enjoy the out doors and spend time with your loved ones.Keep up the great work👌🏿👏🏿👌🏿👏🏿👌🏿

Bongane N — Google review

A truly fantastic botanical garden, offering a range of casual walks and rugged geological hiking trails for more adventurous sightseers. The gardens are well laid out and kept in stunning condition. There's plenty for the whole family to do, including play parks and trails for younger children, a beautiful restaurant and lots of open space to sit down, relax, and enjoy the view. The centre point of the gardens is the waterfalls, which is an absolute must see. There's a rugged path that leads to the top of the falls and up into the surrounding hills. It's tough going, hard on the knees but the views make it altogether worthwhile. Will definitely be back 😀

John C — Google review

Very special place to visit. The gardens are beautiful despite the time of year (autumn). Spotted the resident eagles soaring above the falls. Enjoyed THE BEST toasted sandwich and chips served by incredibly efficient, helpful, and friendly staff. Deffinately will be visiting again soon

Alison B — Google review

Wow, really beautiful and well maintained gardens. Great for family picnics and a nice getaway for the day from the hustle and bustle. The waterfalls are sharp 🤙🏽check out the black eagles nest.

Thyag S — Google review

The place is quiet and clean. Apparently, there are no bins, so whatever you bring for your mini picnic, you will have to take the trash with you back home. Safe for kids also they do have restaurants.

Thando M — Google review

Beautiful hiking trail, beautiful scenery.A perfect spot to go and relax in nature. It is a short drive from either Pretoria or Johannesburg. If you want to do a lunch or picnic please use plastic containers like Tupperware because they do not have bin's for rubbish. Don't bring disposable cutlery. Respect Nature.

Gerard C — Google review

I have always wanted to visit and finally did for a family reunion. What a beautiful garden/park. Clean, peaceful and so beautiful. The obvious crowning glory is the waterfall. What a beautiful sight 😍. Beautiful hiking paths and shady spaces for a relaxing picnics. Loved the walk through the shade paths along the river and the description of the various rock formations. Definitely will go back to climb up cliff to see the black eagles.

Kogie R — Google review

What a hidden gem! Pack comfy shoes and a picnic basket for a great day out. There is a lot of parking, no wait, there is a restaurant om site, great bathroom.facilites and the whole place is well maintained. The walk to the waterfall is about 1.5km and an easy walk. Great nature sites along the way. Highly recommend this!

Monique C — Google review

Absolutely beautiful place! We visited for my birthday and had a lovely time. We had a picnic and a hike. The scenery is absolutely stunning! I would definitely recommend this place if you enjoy being out in nature.

Kiana E — Google review

A beautiful park with amazing picnic spots. It takes about an hour to walk around the park fully. There is a restaurant inside. The most interesting part of the park is the waterfall. Also there is a bird watching point.

Unnikrishnan — Google review

I joined my friends on a hike and it was so lovely. It's great in warm seasons as the lawns and trees are beautiful & green, a perfect picnic spot. You can walk around or go on a short hike & enjoy a great meal at their restaurant afterward. The hike intensity is on the upper end of the beginner level simply because it starts off with a steep incline. Levels off a bit, and another steep, and a steep descent (if you loop around, I recommend this).

Pam S — Google review

What an amazing place to visit. The park is well maintained and organised. There is a restaurant where you can enjoy a meal under the trees. Alternatively you can bring your own food and a blanket and enjoy a family picnic.

Gerrit O — Google review

Beautiful scenery. Get there early to get a shadey spot. Very clean. Entrance fee to be paid and guards will help you cart your picnic things at R20 a trip which is very helpful if you have a lot of stuff. Safe spot you can leave your picnic stuff and walk around the gardens. Lots to explore. Breathtaking views and beautiful photo opportunities. No balloons or ball games allowed but you can set up a picnic and have a nice relaxed day in nature

Perisha P — Google review

Beautiful gardens well maintained. Lovely kids play area and friendly staff. Would recommend you spend the whole day there as there's lots to see and what's better than spending time in nature!?

Nature L — Google review

Absolutely beautiful.Restroom facilities are not that great, but they are functioning and well maintained. There is a restaurant there, but it closes an hour earlier than the gardens. There are many beautiful paths to walk with benches along the route. The outdoor gym is easy to find, and water fountains work.

Katlego M — Google review

The garden is very well organized except the geological trail is closed for the moment due to maintenance. We could go half way only but it was nice too. I've seen so many birds, enjoyed the time. Wonderful place for a weekend picnic.

Busysuzie S — Google review

A beautiful, peaceful place. That hiking trail was so worth it. However be sure that you are fit and fully geared up because those inclines and declines are not for the faint hearted😁

Nonjabulo H — Google review

Beautiful 😍😍😍The hike is amazing, it's not too long, but brace yourself for the steep. It's about 5km.There are picnic spots and a restaurant. If you have a lot to carry from your car to the picnic spots, then worry not. There are several people in the parking lots with trolleys who will accompany you and all your things for R20.Words are not enough to describe the beauty of this place, you just have to go see it for yourself 😊

Malefojane F — Google review

This spacious garden with the amazing waterfall in the top corner is a great place to relax and unwind. The set up areas (geology, bird hide, paved paths) are really good. Although it was busy it is so spacious we did not feel it was crowded. We did not go to the restaurant, but it looked well patronised.

Jonathan G — Google review

Lovely family outing. Pack a picnic bag or enjoy the restaurant instead. Such great scenery and not too much walking. Amazing. Will be visiting again

Fantastic place to take the family. Dress comfortably as there is a lot of walking around, pram and stroller friendly. Self paced enjoyment and education for the family. Bird food given to encourage interactiveness especially for the kids. Wide assortment of animals! Birds, snakes, bats etc. A live show in the shaded amphitheatre is held at 11am and 3pm.To top it off the kids can have fun at a play area whilst you watch them from the seated area which has its own restaurant.Wonderful way to spend time with the ones you love ❤️

Gorgeous variety of birds as well as some reptiles and monkeys. Lots of family-friendly walking paths and some raised pathways to see above the trees. There is a small cafe for drinks and snacks. Very nice experience overall. It is fully outdoors so I would only go if nice weather.

Enjoyed the Birds Gardens; well maintained, variety of birds and some reptiles. Lots of ducks that kids enjoyed feeding. All in all, a great place for some family fun! Dress comfortably, the place looks small but it’s deceiving. One easily gets tired….of course not the kids!!

Bird Gardens is an affordable and great place to visit for people of all ages. There's so much to see.We were there for around 80 minutes. My highlight was the bird show. There's a shop there for snacks and drinks. When you visit, remember to wear comfy shoes and take a hat if it's a hot day.

Amber S — Google review

Had such a fun day out. The gardens are well kept and the animals look well taken care of. You can grab a packet of duck feed at the ticket office for R12 and feed the ducks, although I recommend getting a few packets and then saving some for the main pond, what a treat. The lemur enclosure is surreal, Jelly and Skinny come right up to you and aren't skittish to touch.

Tiffany T — Google review

We went for a bird show and paid full price for 4 adults and 2 kids - all we got was a bird talk. A bit disappointing that we weren't told that there wasn't a bird show taking place that day. The garden areas were well kept and restaurant area good. Before you buy tickets at the front office, they should disclose if the bird show is taking place or not. Otherwise do a discounted ticket option without the show...

Rebekah B — Google review

Amazing Date idea if you were looking for a fun and special place to spend an anniversary. So many interesting and fun animals and the show was awesome. Lots of variety and the food is amazing. Just be sure to have a full pocket of money

Entry to this magnificent bird sanctuary is only R50 if you are staying at any of the hotels within the Montecasino area (Palazzo, Pivot, or Piazza). The ordinary rate is R110 per adult, or if you visit after 3:30pm, the rate drops to R75. You will find a great assortment of birds, plants, and some reptiles.

We just love this place, bring the retired parents here and they will love it. I would suggest one gets a Montecasino Tsogo sun rewards card, as this gives your discount to enter the bird gardens, depending on your card tear to how much discount you get.The gardens and the bird show is just fantastic and amazing, There are many reptiles too if that is your thing? For the kiddos there is lots to do and there is a nice cafe shop at the entrance. If you never been here just go! It is something to see and this gem is in the heart of Johannesburg!

Adrian M — Google review

Such a stunning place. My boy, 3years, loved the bird show and exploring to see all the beautiful creatures kept. It is clean and really pleasant. The cafe with the play area made the few hours extremely memorable. Definitely worth the cost. Thank you!

Was an awesome experience! Cages are very well kept and maintained! Some cages empty but cant wait to see whats going to go in them!Fun interactions with some of the bird! They come and sit on you :)We fed some ducks pellets you can buy at the entrance. Even the doves come and take it out of your hands. The only negatives I have about the park although the majority of the park is handicap friendly, not all places are accessible.

Riaan G — Google review

Some of the birds look fine and Happy but others look sad. The food place there is only recommended for kids party's.

It's one of my favourite Sunday activities. There are a few bird shows that are very informative and interesting. They not oy have birds, but also reptiles, monkeys, and more! The price isn't bad and we've gone a few times. We never get bored.

Nicola M — Google review

A wonderful little escape in the middle of Fourways, with an abundance of wildlife and some lovely interactive opportunities to keep the little ones busy. The enclosures are clean and the animals are very active which makes it easy visiting these gardens and supporting the initiatives they have going. The only thing I'd improve on is the in-house Flamingo Cafe. The service was great but the quality of food needs attention.Thank you!

Kione C — Google review

From after Covid, the park has been battling. Bird show very watered down. A few empty cages with nothing in.

Elfrieda S — Google review

My family loved it. It's just big enough to get your muscles working in the open air but small enough to not become monotonous. The animals are all well-kept and have the freedom to roam the main enclosure so you get a real sense for the animals as you would find them out in the wild. The gardens are beautiful, and my kids enjoyed the bird show. There's a lovely cafe at the entrance with a play area for the kids next to the flamingo enclosure, which really does make for a brilliant wild experience right on our doorstep.

Shana M — Google review

A lovely day out just enjoying the warm Jozi winter sun while learning aboutbirds, reptiles, and other mammals from various countries across the world.

Val K — Google review

I am not really big on places that have birds or animals kept in enclosures or for shows but I must say the animals and birds look pretty well looked after and most have good space to roam. One fun activity is feeding the ducks with special duck pellets but please only feed the ducks as they tell you. Otherwise, it's an interesting, interactive place for couples and families to explore together. Lots of interesting birds, reptiles and monkeys to see etc.

Tamlyn R — Google review

Run of the mill birds in a cage stuff, for the most part. Atleast the Macaws were out in the open playing around. Another good part was a big enclosure with a range of birds, also a couple of lemurs lurking. The place is worth spending time for an hour or two tops.

Montecasino is a top casino in Johannesburg with a range of attractions for couples and families to enjoy together, such as an awesome bird park. It's also great for responsible gambling and has plenty of restaurants and entertainment options to choose from.

Fantastic entertainment venues. Amazing restaurant. Great feel to the place so much choice . Massive casino, cinema. Huge outdoor are that has a huge screen showing sporting fixtures. Loads for kids to do also . Every type of restaurant you could want . Fantastic Bird sanctuary next door . Well worth a visit.

Jason J — Google review

Still in great nick, well maintained, awesome selection of eateries, from both fast food to finer dining. The casino is also great fun and worth spending an hour or so trying to win the big one. There was a superb collection of vintage cars on show ahead of an auction, added to the overall feeling of a few hours well spent.

Jonathan D — Google review

Monte is always a great place to go unwind.I am not a gambler so the casino has no attraction for me. Fortunately the supporting restaurants, stores and entertainment venues are more than enough to keep even a non gambler entertained. The restaurants are for the most part well priced and there is an excellent range so you can enjoy it on a budget. The security is a great advantage as you can feel comfortable with letting the teens roam free without supervision and there are plenty of activities for them too.Overall I think everyone should visit at least once to take in the sights and experience but I am confident that having visited once you will want to return again and again.

Our go to place for hanging out with friends. There is something for everyone here. You see all age groups of people. So many beautiful restaurants, casino to play, movies, food courts, arcade, bowling, laser tag, plays, desserts, shopping, everything. This place is also quite safe that we haven’t heard of any incidents that we are aware of.The false ceiling and the fountains give it European vibe. You will take loads of pictures here. What a vibrant atmosphere at Montecasino! You can truly feel the festive season in the air. From money being spent to family outings....the buzz is awesome! Despite the chaos, I absolutely loved the energetic vibe of the festivities. Amazing end to 2023!!

The place is beautiful, an excellent replica of Italy, with a nice ceiling miming the sky. It has a lot of restaurants for every taste, from pizza and pastas, to sushi, burgers, typical food.. The casino is inside, but I didn't play. There are movies and theaters, bowling and games for kids. The entrance itself is free. The prices at the restaurants vary depending of what you want to eat. The bathrooms are clean.

The place is amazing you can have your night walk in peace.. but expect lots of traffic walkingDifferent restaurants make it better for you to choose from the best also they do have clubs I was very impressed. They do have some shopping clothes as well.. if you have been to emperor place just imagine double size of it with lots of restaurants and out door ones for smokers with a great view as well I’ll definitely do this again

Visited on a weekend with friends and family. Even 2 small kids are with us. And for everyone it is very very great place to spend time. You have all kinds of restaurants, gaming zone, casino , kids area etc. You even have a place where you can leave your kids in the care zone and go for a movie or play in the casino. We had lunch at an Indian Restaurant, the place is very good and well maintained.

👌🏽👌🏽 Very clean. Perfect for the whole family. There's a cinema, casino, games (arcade, bowling, etc) and lovely restaurants. The overall design is awesome, it has an Italian feel. Sort of feels like a night out in Italy. You will understand it once you get there. So go go go 🤭

This is definitely a must go place for those who've never been there, the place is beautiful and it's warm inside so there's no need to overdress. Amazing activities to do inside if going as a group also an amazing place for a date with amazing restaurants and bars. I've been there four times this year that's how I've fallen in love with the place. NEXT TIME I'M GOING TO THE CASINO🤞

Fantastic place to walk around at and visit. Many great food places to eat as well. Indoor and outdoor areas. Quite touristy and a lot of fun. Good location and security.

Montecasino, located in the vibrant Fourways area of Johannesburg, is a premier entertainment destination that offers a unique experience reminiscent of a Tuscan village. With an impressive 4.5-star rating from over 1700 reviews, visitors are captivated by its Italian communal theming and the buzz of social and entertainment activities. Whether it's the thrill of the casino, a variety of dining options, or the luxury of staying at The Piazza Hotel, Montecasino promises a memorable visit with something for everyone to enjoy.

Very nice family friendly place, as like other casino, R10 parking for the duration of your visit. Magic world play area well equipped to entertain the entire family, just gets a bit crowded. More then enough restaurants for your liking, witnessed at some restaurants you'll que up to get inside, which give indication the restaurants food are well sought after. So yah it's worth the drive to spend your day with the kids.

Montecasino in Johannesburg is an absolute gem and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a great entertainment experience. In addition to the casino, Montecasino also offers a fantastic selection of restaurants, bars, and cafes. Whether you're in the mood for a casual meal or a fine dining experience, you're sure to find something to suit your taste buds. The food was delicious and the service was impeccable. The complex also has a theater, which hosts amazing performances and shows. I was lucky enough to catch a show during my visit and it was truly spectacular. The sound and lighting were top-notch and the performers were incredibly talented.Overall, Montecasino is a fantastic destination for anyone looking for a fun, exciting, and memorable experience. I would highly recommend it and give it a 5-star rating without hesitation.

Fireroom was awesome !!The fillet on the bone and bang bang chicken as well as sushi on fire were absolute hits. Not so much their dessert as it was very dry, plain and simple.

I was here at Montecasino merely to meet and greet with our President that visited SA for BRICS Summit. From the outside is a nice and fancy place. Not sure how does it look inside the room an all other facilities as I was only outside and at the Reception inside area. I am sure its a great place as couple of Head of State was staying here.

Had a family dinner for Mother's day. I enjoyed every moment at Kream. For the first time a restaurant that gives you a hot towel specifically after the ribs. The food was fresh and delicious. Friendly and warm service. The ambience is breathtaking. Reservation was done online and when we arrived the table was ready and the waitress was waiting for us. Super impressed.

What's not to love at Texan wing bar! The wings were hands down the best tasting stuff I've had in a while. Jalapeño poppers were such a nice change to the normal type. Nachos were such a huge portion! And milkshakes just divine ♥️ definitely a go to spot for wings.

Well setup casino. This casino pulls in a huge crowd, because locals around love spending on a little gambling. The no of machine are huge. Multiple gaming options. Machine and manual both setups available. Located at prime spot. Good parking, various food option available.

Abhishek D — Google review

Can be seen as a little deceptive from the outside. Great place to catch a bite to eat with a huge variety of options as well as the chance to catch a show. The prices on shows are very reasonable, especially if you think what they charge overseas for similar performances.

What a beautiful place! I was wowed by the decor when I entered Monte Casino for the first time the other night. Completely stunning how they've made the interior look with the buildings and streets. I absolutely loved it.

Very nice setting and lots to do. Spoiled for choice on restaurants but can get very busy and expensive. Overall, a very nice experience. It's worth the visit when in Johannesburg. Check out the bird park as well.

Jannie P — Google review

It is so beautifully designed. It has that Italian / vintage/ Rome layout. There is a huge variety of different types of restaurants - Greek, Indian, Japanese, Italian and a lot more. They also have a food court with a variety of affordable well known food places. There is also a lot of entertainment with the casino, bowling, games, bumper cars and movies. There is also a beautiful open area which has a unique fountain that children are normally playing at.

Ayesha P — Google review

Hidden treasure in Fourways. Uniquely built to resemble a Tuscan Village (Italy) inside. I went for dinner and they have a nice variety of restaurants. I highly recommend for tourists and locals.

I absolutely loved my visit at Monte Casino, the ceiling looks like a day sky. There are water fountains around. The indoor Casino has shops & restaurants. There is no ID requirement upon entering, perfect place for dates or family time.

Thuso M — Google review

Lots of restaurants and theaters. Fun place to visit, but we missed the legendary sky painted roof? It was very dark inside the casino and very busy. Avoid peak hours if you get anxious in crowds! I would not say child friendly (little kids approximately 1 to 7 years). There are very few family-friendly restaurants with play areas (I know there is a Spur but do not know how the playarea is).

Rietvlei Nature Reserve is a large and untouched nature reserve in Gauteng, South Africa, home to four of The Big Five game animals - black wildebeest, buffalo, cheetah, and lion. Visitors can explore the reserve at their own leisure from the comfort of their car on easy day-trips. There are also guided hikes and horse trails available for those who want to get out more deeply into the reserve.

Must visit game reserve for the whole family. Much to see in terms of tons of bird species and plenty of animals that include the hippo and rhino. There are picnic and braai spots inside for relaxing. These spots must be vacated at 6pm, with the main gate closing at 7.We got a bit lost inside on our way out because the roads are not properly marked with sensible directions. If you're gonna exit and are not too sure about the route, I recommend you start moving well on time.

Wonder M — Google review

Very well looked after nature reserve, just on the edge of the suburbs of Pretoria. There is a large dam and lots of grasslands as well as some small rivers and reed beds. There are buffalo, cheetah and other wildlife to see, but it is probably the bird life that makes this place so special. With a diversity of habitats you should easily able to see at least 50 different species in a few hours if you drive to different spots. There are also several well maintained birdhides where you can sit and admire the scenery while you lookout for birds. There is also a nice restaurant/coffee-shop where you can get a light snack and refreshments and enjoy sitting out in the peaceful gardens.

Mike R — Google review

Support an excellent nature reserve right in the heart of Gauteng. Easy access from the main routes and they offer a number of facilities along with some excellent game viewing. Very good picnic/ braai facility with ablutions. A tea garden with good coffee or hot chocolate on those cold mornings. Self drive and game drive vehicles. Some unique animals if you are lucky and you can be home in time for lunch if you like.

Jacques S — Google review

What a wonderful surprise! This tiny nature reserve seems well stocked and beautiful. The roads are clearly marked and easy to drive. There are several bird hides and loads to see. There are picnic spots by the dam, and we loved that it was just a small drive out of the city.R71 per adult.

Jane ( — Google review

We were invited by friends for a picnic at this gem. The picnic area was clean, and we'll keep. We heard the hippopotamus and there are a lot of bird life. We went for a drive and saw more than 10 different animals. We thoroughly enjoyed this outing and will definitely go back. Can't believe this place still exists. Thank you for taking good care of this little gem!

Jazzy J — Google review

A pleasant surprise. Though there was a queue we didn't regret waiting. Saw many animals up close including a rhino. Good viewing for the fee paid.

Auresha F — Google review

One of my favourite “in the wild” places to relax and unwind. Perfectly located between Kempton Park and Pretoria offering that “outdoor wildlife experience” without having to drive for hours. I haven’t been disappointed yet.The birdlife is amazing. The hides are perfect for sunset photography. The cheetah’s are always on the list of animals to find. So far I have seen them 3 times… And with the cubs only a few months old it’s the perfect time to visit. For the more adventurous there’s the wildlife walks and overnight camps. The tar roads are good, however, some of the sand roads need a little attention, especially if you’re in a sedan.Tickets are purchased on arrival, but credit card only. No cash!

Leonard E — Google review

Looking for some quiet time in Nature just 30min out of Johannesburg? Then head out early to Rietvlei Nature Reserve in Pretoria. This beautiful reserve is a bird watchers dream, with tons of wild life too, buffalo, zebra, eland, jackal, serval as well as cheetah! You can only get out at demarcated areas and hides. There is a wonderful picnic site by the dam with loads of seating and braai facilities and there is a coffee shop that offers limited meals. Conservation fees are about R62 for adults (less for children and pensioners). Pack a picnic and head out for a lovely day away from the city hustle.Don’t forget to pack binoculars and cameras. You can also download a basic bird and animal list from Google for the kids to mark off while driving around.

LISA L — Google review

We visited on a weekend in September 2023 before heading to the airport for our flight home. It was not too busy. There was a short wait to get a ticket, but the roads weren't too bad. It is a nice reserve to drive around and see wildlife. We found the signage extremely bad. This picture of a road sign, with missing arrows and letters peeling off was typical. The bathrooms were pretty bad too. This place could definitely use some maintenance.

Arthur W — Google review

I went to this place after seeing some reviews on one of the social media platforms. I wasn't disappointed by the place and should make sure I have my meat and snacks ready. Next time I'll go there prepared. I got the opportunity to see the animals within the property.

Gudani M — Google review

Such a peaceful retreat, with a huge abundance of water, wildlife & birds.Extremely affordable.Roads are well kept but being mainly dirt roads, heavy rain falls can effect the condition thereof.Photographers paradise.Braai/picnic area & coffee shop.Organized hikes & game drives.Due to the recent heavy rain, some of the dirt roads have been closed off to the public

Carla S — Google review

On my first visit I saw quite a variety of the animals. The clouds also played along to make the scenery more spectacular. Even heard some jackals while driving around the reserve. The animals are so relaxed around the vehicles that you can have a nice close view of them🦓 I would recommend going here to anyone.

Esmeralda H — Google review

Stunning location and feels like you are escaping from the city. Really nicr picnic spots and the drive to the dam with all the animals is incredible.

Melissa B — Google review

Very nice game drive. Lots of animals that includes Cheetahs, rhinos and many more. Pricing not bad for a day out with the family. Place is clean and lots of picnic spots. There is braai areas. So make sure to pack a chop

Wayne B — Google review

Had a great afternoon. Reasonable game viewing ending off with a cheetah sighting in the late afternoon (rare sighting so expectations should be moderated). Pretend you’re in the real bush and you’ll enjoy.

Wade P — Google review

Great experience. Got to see buffalo right next to the road. The honorary rangers are also doing a great job at maintaining the integrity of the park. While at the picnic site, a ranger came to share the news that the rhino were at the coffee shop, just to add to the great service we had already experienced.

Chané E — Google review

Affordable and thrilling experience for the whole family! We visited Rietvlei nature reserve and were amazed by the diverse wildlife, including rhinos, zebras, and a massive herd of buffaloes. It's an exciting excursion for children, offering a memorable encounter with nature's wonders.

Malebina B — Google review

Spent a relaxing afternoon driving around the reserve. It isn’t too big so it is a great way to introduce children to a game drive and the love of wild animals. The bird hides and lookout points were a highlight for the children and gave them an opportunity to stretch their legs. I was a bit disappointed with the coffee shop playground. I hope that it gets a revamp so that visiting children can take a break from the drive and recharge, however I realise children probably aren’t their target demographic. Overall it was a great afternoon driving through grasslands and wetlands. We saw rhino, zebra, waterbuck, guineafowl, blesbok and many birds. We just enjoyed being in nature.

Deborah G — Google review

The price has gone up and is now currently more than what they indicate on the website. If I remember correctly, it is now R72 per adult to enter the nature reserve. I recommend going early to avoid standing in a queue to enter, which is what we did. Make sure to pack lots of fluids to drink and don't forget a camera or binoculars. A very nice day trip for the whole family!

Ralda V — Google review

Its a nice little urban reserve. Self drive through the reserve. many animals but we saw zebras, waterbugs, ostrich, few rhino, and beautiful bird life. The restaurant had delicious food. But was not very clean. Its an old farm house that needs a good clean.

Busisiwe R — Google review

I have visited Rietvlei twice in the last three months for birding. The place is well maintained, with clean toilets and hides. Unfortunately, the reed's around some of the hides are overgrown, making it difficult to see any water birds. The birds can be heard but not seen. I believe that if the reed's were cut a bit it would allow for better birding. The park itself has a good amount of animals and plenty of bird life. Roads are good in the dry season, but i think that in the wet season some of the dirt roads will be a challenge to normal cars. Picnic sites are clean and well maintained. It is a pleasure to visit this park.

Willie S — Google review

LOVED the guided tour with Brad. Educational, breathtaking (even from the walk), with lots of game to see. Pity the Rhino were so far…Hambani bakithi! A re eng teng!

David M — Google review

Rietvlei Nature Reserve is a gem on the edge of town in Pretoria East. This quaint, small and stunning reserve is the perfect place for a day visit no matter the season. It has a nice selection of wildlife, often is the home of a cheetah or six, and has an abundance of birdlife that make it a birder's must visit. Animals are relaxed, and the "Friends of Rietvlei" keep the reserve well looked after. It has a beautifully selection of hides, picnic areas, a nice "Coffee Shop" where you can enjoy drinks and food, and the tar roads are well kept, and most of the dirt roads are in good condition too but some sections can be a bit challenging for an urban car especially after rain. The reserve is very popular on weekends, so things can be a bit messy on Mondays and Tuesdays around picnic areas, but usually by Wednesday everything is beautifully pristine again. If you do enjoy this reserve or want to become an avid visitor, join "Fiends of Rietvlei" membership to support the volunteers who look after the reserve, or join their efforts yourself.

Charlotte G — Google review

I absolutely loved the place and the beauty it holds within. It is well maintained and kept clean. They also have some game animals too but none that are carnivorous or dangerous. It is massive and have things that you can do such as calm, quiet drives, hideouts, lapas and bomas and the dam is accessible for being on the water. It is definitely a family orientated place and the kids will be able to enjoy the day and have the best sleep that night.

Skylah W — Google review

We arrived at 3:40pm on the 6th of July 2024 and managed to see a-lot of the animals advertised on the boards. It was incredible and beautiful. There are roads that are blocked off in the reserve which are shortcuts to the main gate so i would not suggest going after 4pm as we got lost at 5:30pm on our way out and was blocked off by a heard of buffalos on our way out making us go around the whole reserve again and leaving at 6:37pm. The only reason for the 4 stars, the 2 night shift guards at the exit did not want us to exit and forced us to bribe them R300 to exit (which we refused!), luckily for the ranger we were able to exit. Beautiful scenery.

Liliesleaf is a museum in Johannesburg that tells the story of South Africa's liberation movement. The museum has exhibits which provide background information on the struggle for freedom, as well as interactive features which allow visitors to explore the history of apartheid and the events that led up to its downfall.

They have preserved the homestead and outbuildings well. The kids enjoyed the interactive information stations and it was nice to give them visuals and context. It was very quiet and hopefully more people will support Liliesleaf by visiting.

Liliesleaf is currently undergoing renovation. It was not officially open when I visited on September 14, 2023 but an employee offered to guide me through many of the displays. Unfortunately we didn't get to tour around the farm and play. It was heavily raining. Though their restaurant offered us solace and comfort. Their staff was friendly and welcoming. We appreciated the chefs vary much, their food was scrumptious and delicious 😋 😜 😀 😍 👌 😊. Keep up the good work

Tiny N — Google review

Its a lovely place to go to especially when the market is open. The price you pay is quite costly especially when you're an entire family and you'd expect them to give you gloves that they say you need. You have to pay for them which I think is ridiculous. The restaurant there is also lovely, however, you battle to find a table as most of them are reserved. I understand that reservations are good but as far as im concerned, if there is a family there wanting a table, first come first serve. They'd rather have an empty table waiting for people than to serve those who are already there. No cash is accepted so please make sure you have your bank cards.

I didn't feel the need. It's such a huge historical monument. It's also a very planned layout. If you're a wheelchair user, you'll will not have a problem visiting here. It's incredibly accessible with ramps. Also It's walking distance from the Nelson Mandela house, too. People outside are very friendly and I meet Hectors sister Antoinette!! She does guided tours.

I know The Memorial is very very important. I feel sad , because children were killed for no reason. I got depressed. I already knew history, but felt angry again. Memorial is very well organized. No one can turn away from the violence that happened; no one should. Main story is out of the building. When you visit please do not think it is a museum; whole area is the idea. Try to understand what happened.

Ebru T — Google review

Lovely experience. No bookings needed, we paid for 14 tickets upon arrival (R23 for locals and R54 for tourists). A tour guide was provided however he did not take a moment to pause and check if the guests have questions. Our tour guide also expected a tip after the tour.No pictures are allowed to be taken inside the museum.Overall a great place, just watch out for scammers!

Thou a great source of painful memories for black South Africans, it is a truly magnificent monument of historic truth and a display of courage for those who fought for black people to have equal right with white people. Even willing to rist their lives for us.The tour guide was truly informative and it was awe inspiring to stand were courageous young men and women matched for the future to be brighter we will forever be grateful. Must see.

Fantastic, moving experience. Very good community guides outside. Sufficient parking. Highly recommend

Did a tour of Soweto which is a must do if visiting Johannesburg

Geoff C — Google review

It's quite dull. One has to read to understand the whole message. It would be good if they have guides to quicken the process especially for tourists. The reading is ideal for students not tourists.

Terry N — Google review

This place tells the story of how brave youths have fought for freedom and democracy in South Africa, You can actually feel like you were there when it happened because of the emotions the memorial will reveal to you.

Eric C — Google review

It tells a great Historical stories. The meaning of June 16 in South Africa and why they started the Soweto uprising strike. Thank you to our Heroes/Heroin who fought for our nation.

Lesego M — Google review

Interesting smaller museum about the young boy who was shot during the Soweto school uprising. Very moving story. The museum itself can be seen within 30 minutes or so. Note there are 'guides' outside the museum who will tell you about the events and ask for a tip.

Great place although with sad history but wonderful to learn and know of june 16 1976. Also perfect place to take pictures.

The Mandela House, also known as the Nelson Mandela National Museum, is a museum located in Johannesburg that is dedicated to preserving the history of the Mandela family. The house was their former residence from 1946 until the 1990s when it was donated to the Soweto Heritage Trust. It is a must-visit place for those interested in learning more about one of South Africa's most iconic figures and his achievements.

Very interesting experience, although Nelson Mandela didn’t lived in this house for long, the information from documentation to awards is well displayed. It is very positive that the price includes the guide but in the end you need to tip them.

S?nia E — Google review

We had an historic experience there. If you’re visiting the place, it’s best to have a guide who would be explaining the ins and outs of the house.Especially some of the memorabilia inside the house, our guide explained the belt he got from Sugar Ray Leonard, the letter in the cupboard, the setup of the house, the fire bombing of the house, the graves on the house, the umbilical cords of the children.I’d recommend this for any traveller, especially for those who didn’t get to experience Mandela. You get to be up close and personal and feel like you knew Mandela. It’s relatively affordable, we went during the Youth Day (16 June) and the fee was R40.

Tapfuma C — Google review

History like a gunshot to the face! Generous amount of knowledge & history to be absorbed here. If you’re holding an African passport you get a discounted price, please note.

Irfan V — Google review

Great place to learn the history of Nelson Mandela in a relaxed way. A small cozy home filled with a lot of efucative memories, you can even visualise everything with the pictures that were taken way back. Very smart and well maintained. Friendly guides too. The street has nice restraurants and bars as well. Traditional dancers and so much entertainment. You will need cash with you to tip everyone. I loved the place.

Leona K — Google review

Visiting here is like walking in the footsteps of a great man and through his life. To say the least it is a humbling experience. The house is small but cosy. The renovations have certainly helped to restore the place and gives one a glimpse of the Mandela family life. The coal stove and bedroom are true replicas. The volunteers who guide you through the tour shed a lot of light on the history and events associated with the home and family. It is inspiring to think that he came from such a simple background but went on to do such amazing things.Note there are MANY groups performing traditional dances on the street outside. It’s fun to watch however they do expect a tip for their performance. This can be overwhelming on the wallet.

This is a Great little piece of history to see. My very knowledgeable tour guide , that was found inside the museum, was awesome. You can See her on my last photo.

Charles S — Google review

Our guide was a very knowledgeable college student/docent who shared a great deal about the history on the outside of the house. Once inside, we were left to roam through the small house on our own, which was actually perfect because it was a typical modest home. It is a glimpse into the past, personal life, and living space of the Mandela family. I appreciate that the family made it into a museum, and the state designated it as historic.

Tien S — Google review

We got there late afternoon and our guide was clearly tired. We had multiple international guests in our group and communication wasn't clear. The house itself is always good to visit as a historical site but while I've been there numerous times, I always appreciate the visit.

Wenchy — Google review

Nice place which is worth visiting. A bit more about the history of one of the most iconic people of the SAR people. Interesting facts about his life, old photos, and achievements of his life will uncover more about Nelson Mandela. Once you are in Soweto it’s worth having a short break also here💪

Ales T — Google review

A walk into the home of one of the greatest men that lived. Hard to imagine that this 300 sq ft home was where Nelson Mandela lived(albeit, briefly). Modest entry fee of 60 rand for adults , a lively well informed guide. Overall , a 30 min walk into history.

Krishna K — Google review

Very small but worthwhile museum. Inexpensive entry fee. We opted for a tour guide for tip only. She was a tourism student at a university. It was well worth it as she really added to the museum with commentary and background. Be careful of the surrounding area if you decide to walk around.

Anne W — Google review

Love the Mandela House, its still have their old furnitures, bed, pictures, certificates and more inside. Yhooo the Vilakazi street hee its a Vide, these pub, club, food, free markets, people dancing, nabours chilling outside their yards, they are friendly, gave us a parking its.

Lesego M — Google review

Everyone knows Mr. Nelson Mandela. Visitors to Mandela's house can explore the various rooms, including the living room, dining room, kitchen, and bedrooms. Mandela's house has become a symbol of hope and resilience, embodying the triumph over adversity.

Lai S — Google review

We took our kids here and they had a lot of questions about the furniture in the house. Took us all back in the days when we used coal stoves. The queue to enter was not long and we weren't many inside the house, we could maneuver around easily. What an interesting visit.

Katlego L — Google review

Interesting to see but definitely wouldn't say it is a must see. The entrance costs 60rand and the house itself is very small with much of the surrounding area full of touristic gifts and restaurants. If planning to visit, I would recommend that it isn't out of your way because the house itself was underwhelming for me.

Leonard — Google review

Some reviews wonder if this place is worth seeing. Well, I definitely think it is even though it is a small home. So much history and the guide made it come alive with stories while also letting us wander around a bit on our own.

Heather P — Google review

The visit was extremely disappointing. The place was only the size of a hotel room, yet the ticket price was R180. There were only two restrooms, and the lines were very long. There wasn’t even a dedicated parking area for the museum nearby. To make matters worse, a guide asked for a R50 parking fee! They really treat foreigners like fools. This was the worst of the worst travel experience!

Lutendo — Google review

It was a surreal moment for me. I enjoyed every bit of our visit. The tour guide is very experienced and friendly.

Adeyinka A — Google review

It is the absolute and must do in Johannesburg. It is Soweto. Entrance is 180 ZAR. But is a must see to pick a bit of history of the country. And taking photo outside is an obligation. Totally amazing.

Mustafa A — Google review

Definitely need to take a walk to feel the sensual atmosphere and see the history of our people. There's restaurants, bars, Kota places and beautiful views.

Mixo R — Google review

Not a lot to see, per say. The building surrounding the house gives the impression that it's a lot to see. It's like any other shack in Soweto. Furniture and some personal items. There are no pictures allowed inside and no video on premises. But having said that. Once you leave out from the house, the whole street is alive and popping. Zulu dancing men in complete costumes. They put on a very energetic show for you. The street vendors are everywhere and will pressure you to buy. Everything is negotiable and worth the hassle. Keep your money close to you, and don't flash large sums. There are guides there that direct you to parking, give him 50 Rands, and it's worth it. He will keep the non vendors from begging you. Can't think of anything else of importance, but as detailed as I am trying to be, nothing compares to the experience. None African pay more for admission. YOLO

Asheed A — Google review

This was where Nelson Mandela stayed before he became the President. It is small and compact, about similar size to studio apartment in Singapore. There are student volunteers to provide guided tour. Will take about 30mins for the whole visit. Worth visiting

CJMS — Google review

Thoroughly enjoyed the visit. Took it upon myself to educate my kids about the role model of all times, Nelson Mandela! Neo was amazing too, as our tour guide.

Bonolo R — Google review

The Location is near the main road, community is so friendly and the area is very safe. The house on the outside has the vintage look and the atmosphere from the yard into the house is so touching, you may end up loosing your self with the amount of history and being inside the house of the heroes

Stanley M — Google review

We visited Mandela's House as part of a morning stop over in Soweto. The house itself is small but thought provoking.I would suggest visiting the area with a local or as part of an organised group so that you are able to safely enjoy all Soweto has to offer.

An amazing step into the dark past of South Africa, which inspires hope that f a generation of freedom. Truly powerful and moving with a lot to see and absorb. A great family trip or solo traveler hoping to learn more!

Stephen I — Google review

It was a beautiful experience, the place has been turned into a heritage site and you relive the past with the help of friendly guide who explains certain things through pictures. It is still relevant for children to learn about the history of Tata and mother of the nation mama Winnie. However, the prices should be revised 🫡

The FNB Stadium in Johannesburg, located on Soccer City Ave in Nasrec, is a well-known landmark. Famous for hosting the 2010 soccer World Cup, it has now become a popular venue for major concerts, state events and sports. Its stunning architecture is admired by many with a capacity of 94 736 seats making it one of the largest stadiums in South Africa.

Enjoyed à good Diski Challenge game Chiefs vs Baroka. Final score 1-1. Giving support to my Son.

This place has a very rich history in terms of South African Sport, it was revamped for the 2010 soccer world cup.Great atmosphere especially if you attendeding when your team is playing, it's safe to bring your whole family for an even more fun time. With current Covid 19 regulations the verification process can be tedious if there's huge crowds but the staff were very knowledgeable and quick to process verification.Overall it's an awesome beautiful venue to attend events at.

Lusani M — Google review

A well-built strong stadium that accommodated more than 94 000 on the EFF 10 year celebration anniversary. The stadium is so cleaned and toilets are all over

Vongani R — Google review

It's quite a beautiful stadium. I had the privilege of seeing Link Park live at this stadium. We used Park 'n Ride to get to the stadium as it's situated in an unsafe area, but other than that it was clean and well kept. There were lots of security around to make sure it was safe and that nobody got out of hand and the available food and drinks stall was well staffed and they were very friendly.Unfortunately the weather was wet, cold and unpleasant and due to the fact that it's an open stadium, we were a bit uncomfortable, but the sound was excellent and the seats were comfortable. The bathrooms were also incredibly clean and well stocked with toiletries. All in all, I had a great time!

FNB stadium, located in Soccer City Ave, Nasrec, Johannesburg. Beautifuly designed stadium Architecturaly, with a capacity of 94 736.

Mx M — Google review

Was there for the Imagine Dragons show. It was amazing! Only bad things was that we were waiting in the line to buy food, waited an hour and left without food when the show started. Also when we were leaving, walking back to the busses, the gates were locked and we had to wait quite a while for it to be opened. But the show was stunning.

Ilona K — Google review

Great stadium to host massive events, it even provides some protection against weather for an open venue. I would strongly suggest creating a pin for where you park, the circular design makes it difficult to retrace your steps.

Marius V — Google review

The soccer World Cup 2010 stadium. This is just on the outskirts of Soweto, so once you have been to Soweto and are on your way out. Stop at this beautiful calabash shaped stadium and take some pictures.

Always great atmosphere to be in the state of the art stadium watching Amasandawana Mzansi's number 1 team

Vimbanai N — Google review

This is one of the stadia that was renovated for the iconic FIFA World Cup hosted in 2010.It is a wonderful stadium located in the South of Johannesburg that hosts soccer, cycling, running, music, expo’s and a number of other events. Whenever an event is going to be hosted at FNB Stadium, just know that it’ll be huge! This is a 90,000 capacity stadium.Should you attend an event here, get there well ahead of time. There is always plenty of parking available but, again, events hosted here are always massive so get here timeously. In terms of parking fees, some events make you pre-pay for parking, while others allow you to park at the venue. Always have change on hand to pay the car-guards.The venue is easily accessible off the M1 and N1 highways. Just check with event organisers whether any road-closures are planned. This venue is also popular with photoshoots. Should you wish to use the outside of the venue, you don’t particularly need a permit; however, should you require a photoshoot within the stadium itself, send a request well ahead of time. It’s a beautiful venue; a must-see for any visitor to the city of Johannesburg.

The atmosphere when Pirates and Chiefs play is unmatched. I had fun 🤩 my team won. You can create friends, United the different classes of people.

Reedy E — Google review

Great venue for large events like Monster jam! Loved the seats we had and thoroughly enjoyed the show. Only negatives are that the sound from the commentators were terrible and we could not hear a word they were saying and the food services at the back are also not equipped to handle the large crowds are we were stading in que's for more than an hour just to be helped. For sure something to look into.

Morne B — Google review

I enjoyed watching the match there between kaizer chiefs✌️ and Sundowns👆 everything went well with no fights even though it ended up with the draw 1-1 score

Patricia N — Google review

This is a brilliant football stadium, designed to lock-in the atmosphere from really huge and passionate crowds, up to 95000 strong. The Calabash is a monument to the hosting of the 2010 World Cup, and is in fact one of the standout successes that serves as a legacy to the country. There is only one game in any of our sporting codes that can really fill this venue, and that is the Soweto derby, one of the biggest games in world football! Road traffic management and better transport options would really assist in avoiding delays in reaching the stadium. Unfortunately one of the best options, namely the rail link from Park station, is no longer viable because of consistent cable theft.

Jim P — Google review

This is one of the most great soccer stadiums in Mzansi. Went there during SOWETO DERBY and the energy within the stadium is on another level. Different people that you come across and everything in between. Awesome place to be... Just be on guard for your belongings as they can get lost easily.

Frederick ( — Google review

Buy tickets in advance especially for big games to avoid any issues at the gate. Get there early for easy access into the stadium. Otherwise wonderful experience I've had everytime I've gone there.

Thokozani N — Google review

I went to the calabash concert at the stadium, and the event organizers and workers did a really good job at handling so many people in and around the stadium. I was really impressed. One thing to note is that you must be prepared to pay really high prices for food and drinks. R60 was the lowest price for a drink. For coke and other drinks was around R25 to R30.

Jordan T — Google review

FNB Stadium in Johannesburg, known for hosting the 2010 FIFA World Cup final, is a marvel of modern architecture with its African pottery-inspired design. It seats nearly 95,000, offering great views and an electric atmosphere, especially during major football matches and concerts. The stadium is well-equipped with facilities and is easily accessible, though it's wise to plan for traffic during big events. While food and drinks can be pricey, the overall experience is memorable, making it a top destination for sports and music fans in South Africa.

Yaseen T — Google review

Great looking stadium. The security was not ready to allow people to scan to enter. Scanners were not working at 4 gates. Eventually they let us in. Beautiful stadium, well maintained but the entry system needs to be optimised.

ST K — Google review

Easily accessible location, lots of parking space- it could do with carports- seats are foldable and clean. The people who scan the tickets are quite friendly and the people who direct you to the level you'll be sitting at are good at maintaining order. The tuckshops sell loads of alcohol and there's people who are selling snacks like biltong & popcorn. The big screen is quite accommodating and the speakers are reasonably audible. The stadium is very clean by the way....10/10 to the cleaners. I can't comment on the toilets though, as I didn't go there.

Christine N — Google review

Arguably the greatest place to watch big games. Always love coming here. Enough parking if you come early, it gets really tricky to get parking once you are late. Easy to get to from the N1 and M1.

Duncan M — Google review

Chaotic arrival and departure for Calabash. Surrounding traffic was horrendous, no clear signage, Uber pick-up almost unachievable.Ticket system on arrival didn't work.Ushers inside and outside were clueless.Would never bother going back to any event at this venue.Paid R 2 750 per ticket to sit in 3 inches of rainwater and pigeon crap.A cleaner was coming, we're still waiting.

Stuart C — Google review

I enjoyed the event I went there for, I however did not like the state of the toilet at the stadium. They were not clean, and they smelled.Streets lights on the main street (Nasrec) don't work at all. That's a call for concern. But in a nutshell, it's a beautiful stadium 🏟 I loved it.

The apartheid museum is a museum in Johannesburg, South Africa that celebrates the end of white-minority rule in South Africa through its informative displays on the history of apartheid. The museum allows visitors to experience segregation based on race by separating them into different groups according to their features, including skin color, size of nose, kinks in hair and language used. This highly recommended museum also highlights the progress made by South Africa since the end of apartheid with its various exhibits.

A must in Joburg. Only open Thursday to Sunday and bank holidays, we were lucky to be there on Easter Monday. You have to see this museum to help you understand/recollect/refresh your memory of this insane period in time. I was sickened. I left the museum twice to get air. I left the visit with dark clouds over my head, so I suppose that can give you an idea of just how good this museum actually is. Photos inside the museum are forbidden, but my link with accessibility forced me to take one photo ... "For every person that died, three people were left with a disability..."This just added to my dark clouds.

Very, very interesting and eye opening experience for us at the Apartheid Museum. We went there as part of a private tour and only allotted two hours. So, unfortunately we only made it until 1970 before having to depart. We recommend four hours to see everything included. We were a group of two visiting on a weekday so there was no lines, not very busy and no need to buy tickets in advance. We really enjoyed our time here and would recommend visiting when you travel to Johannesburg.

Chris A — Google review

Such an incredible museum. The layout is beautiful. The beginning of the tour helps you know how to pace your visit based on the time you have. So many different mediums, helping teach or illustrate different parts of the history. Cool gift shop!

Marissa G — Google review

The museum states you can tour it all in about 2.5 hours. You can…but you will not be able to take everything in. I suggest doing half of it, taking a break at the cafe, and then returning again. This was a wonderful experience that was very impressive and thought provoking

Heather P — Google review

We absolutely loved our experience. We arrived early and took our time. Although I'd recommend it for older kids. My 16 year old wanted to spend all morning here, however my 14 and 10year old soon became hungry and tired. The museum is brilliantly set up with up-to-date information. Not much in way of food but conveniently located near the casino which had restaurants as well fast food places nearby..100%recommended as a day out in JHB.

AntwaneK — Google review

Must go to the Apartheid Museum! A wealth of history, so powerful and well presented. Tour guide is recommended. There are a few details you might miss otherwise. And the museum is very large, so the guide helps you move along a bit quicker without missing anything.

Samuel A — Google review

This is one of the best organised and thoughtfully designed historical museums I've visited in a while. When you enter the museum, you are immediately challenged to empathise with people who lived under Apartheid rule.It compares favourably to the Holocaust Museum in Washington, DC. Although we had two hours, we could easily have used another hour. If you read English, you do not need a guide.NOTE: no photos can be taken once you enter.

Kevin S — Google review

The museum overall was an okay experience, I've seen better and have been treated better. The staff in the Cafe on the other hand were another story. Disgusting, rude and malicious! The specific person has been identified in the photos attached. I explained to her that I disliked the sauce they put on my burger and she got IRRATE IMMEDIATELY! She slammed the food carton top down on my hands while I was showing her what I was speaking about and then snatched the carton from me. These photos are the aftermath, she thinks it's funny and smirks about her childish behavior. Just UGLY...

Christie C — Google review

I mean it is a magnificent museum and a total history of the country between 1947-1994. This is the top of the list for Johannesburg. There are videos that are showing the very history and facts. There are a lot of sad stories on the walls and of course it ends with the triump of Mandela. Make sure you spend some quality time here.

Mustafa A — Google review

Sad Sombre part of SA history to witness. The museum has created a multi sensory expirience which was amazing and the book store has amazing south African titles

Lerato M — Google review

Museum is very well done and artistic too. Great transition though history in South Africa. I did this on a day Joburg tour, 2 hours is sufficient to see everything and read. Goes well with visiting Soweto too, the township that is a key example of segregation, separation laws, and racism. Temporary exhibits on Mandela and Tutu are wonderful right now. No pictures to be taken inside. Right next to Gold Reef in case you also want to visit a casino and amusement park. Note, it is open 5 days a week now, so check the schedule.

Neha P — Google review

Very beautiful and informative museum. Staff could be a bit more friendly as they weren't very accepting of us going 'off route' from the set out route through the museum.

Abigayle L — Google review

Great museum with lots of stories and information. Not boring at all!! It’s advised you can spend 2.5 hours but I find I could do 4 hours here.

Patnarin W — Google review

If you're in the area, this should be a place to take in some historical truths. When walking through, not only can you recount the historical context of Apartheid, but one should be able to see its affects on natives of SA then and even now. Only then are we able to understand how truly devastating the systems of Apartheid IS. It's rather insightful and warrants actionable atonement. This is not meant for just another walk through another museum.

Mom&Dad C — Google review

It is a fun place to visit for a deep dive into South Africa's history. The exhibits beautifully showcase the story of apartheid's rise and fall, all within a strikingly designed building. Plus, you can pick up some unique souvenirs to remember your trip. It's a must-see for anyone looking to explore and understand South Africa's past.

Tita — Google review

This museum is going to stir up something deep inside you. You are given either a ‘White’ or ‘Non-white’ card at the entrance which follow separate paths in the first section giving you a very clear insight into how life for South Africans have shaped up over the years. The museum has plenty of excerpts, short movies, audio clips and a lot of info. You should definitely account for 3+ hours to really do justice to this museum.Tickets are priced at 150 Rands as of 2023 and there’s plenty of parking available.

Yondering B — Google review

This was absolutely lovely. The tickets suggest you'll spend 2 Hours but I ended up using almost four hours on a self guided tour.

A very rich and documented museum particularly about South Africa ,it's inhabitants , how gold was discovered in Johannesburg , start of apartheid ( colored , indians , Africans and whites ) ,role of Nelson Mandela & Desmond Tutu and others .Also gives a full biography of Nelson Mandela ,the wives, the prison letters , visitors , his prison cell mates stories etcYou can also see the actual Mercedes Benz Nelson Mandela was given in the 90's + the briefcase 💼

A must visit in Johannesburg! A very impressive and stunning experience to see those precious pictures and footage of history. After this visit you may have a more comprehensive understanding of the complexities of S.A. Unfortunately it’s not allow to take photos inside the museum.

For a look at what Apartheid did in the country, how sad it is that we lived like this and people’s basic rights were taken away from them. This museum is a very popular tourist attraction and one must visit it to gain a deeper insight into the history and past of South Africa.

The museum is a mandatory stop in Johannesburg. It is the city's main attraction and essential for learning about the history of struggle of the South African people. The museum is very beautiful, organized, clean and full of history and interesting facts about the country. It's huge and I recommend at least 3 hours to visit everything at your leisure. It's a very interactive museum and not at all tiring. If you want the best price for this tour, contact Kaya Mundi Viagens on Instagram @kayamundiviagens or via WhatsApp +5514998819570. Amazing Museum that gives a very full and in depth view of Johannesburg and South Africa and about the struggle heros that were involved in the anti apartheid movement. Budget 2-4 hours for this experience. Always take clients here when they visiting from other countries to give them context of our country.

Tebogo M — Google review

A must visit location! Educational and thought provoking. Allow plenty of time for your visit (we spent 4 hours here). Through the displays be prepared to ride an emotional roller-coaster featuring the very worst and the very best of human nature.

Adele L — Google review

It’s a most see in Jobourg - make sure you dedicate at least 3-4 hours. At 5 they turn off the lights and make you find your way through the museum in the dark 😂Definitely unique way to rush people out.

Tarek C — Google review

One of THE BEST museums you’ll find. So wrong experience. Very moving. Extremely well done. Even if you o may have ½ an hour, it’s so worth the 150 Rand per person. You could spend hours and hours there but it’s worth even a short and speedy trip. Just deploy your speed-reading skills - you’ll need it.

Gerrard O — Google review

Learned so much about the dark, shocking and oppressive past of South Africa and the history of a people decided by the apartheid regime! A great educational location with tour guides and dedicated panels filled with snapshot insights of the time.

Stephen I — Google review

As a grown man. I cried. The practice was so despicable that if you have only a degree of humanity, you will cry. I learned that apartheid was so inhuman that I couldn't understand how the world allowed it to go on for so long. The experience is something that is now fully on my soul. How the South African blacks and colored tolerated it for so long is still a mystery to me. If you come to South Africa, you must go right away so you can enjoy the rest of your trip.

Asheed A — Google review

Stunning well laid out museum. History of apartheid laid bare but not in a depressing way. Worth at least 4 hours of your time

Caroline C — Google review

A well constructed, deeply affecting, and often confronting look at humanity in action in South Africa. Does a good job of balancing the horrors of the past with rich profiles of the amazing people who lifted the nation out of those dark times. A visit gives some hope that we may just make it as a species. Maybe.

Troy B — Google review

A moving experience depicting life in Africa past and present, the strife, and the accomplishment made by the will of the people, led by a few strong minded but level-headed individuals.

Amusement park

Fun & Games

The Gold Reef City Theme Park is an amusement park located in Johannesburg, South Africa. It has rides and attractions for all ages and contains some of the most thrilling theme park rides in the country. The amusement park is famous for its Crown Mines tour, which takes you down an abandoned shaft from where gold was mined centuries ago.

Amazing place to visit but I have to say plan in advance for this place, step one arrive very early to catch almost all the busy rides, like Anacondas, the trains and so on, 30min after the place open expect to wait about 30 to 1:30min for a single ride that last a minute. Be prepared to walk a lot, like a lot of walking is required there. The 4D experience was amazing just that they have one movie you can not make a choice, I love the fact that you bring your own food and you can buy food in there too. Online purchase is recommended when you arrive, so if you already know you are going buy ticket online. The part I don’t get is both adult and kids pay R250 even though there are rides the kids can not have access to. I have to say overall it’s ideal place to visit. I enjoyed myself after.

Sifiso N — Google review

Without a doubt a fantastic place to come. I don't know anywhere else in Africa to go for a theme park that comes close to this. I do suspect the staff of keep rides closed for a while for people not to have continuous rides. If you can come on a slow day it is very enjoyable. Especially if enjoy getting a rush from the free falling feeling. There are rides for the whole family and restaurants all over. Even carnival games some of which are very unlikely to win anything. Some are easy wins

Muhammed O — Google review

Still nice place to see and feel the vibe of humans relaxing. The biggest problem us waiting to get into rides. Could barely manage a few during the day. Advice to all find a day it is not so busy.

Hennie M — Google review

We had alot of fun. My son got in free as it was his Birthday. Lots of rides, good food, great experience. A blast for the entire family.

Garreth S — Google review

What a great day out!We had 2 birthdays in the same weekend in our family and this was the perfect option on how to celebrate them!We did most of the rides, the lines weren’t too long, cold drinks and snacks are easily accessible (although a 250ml coke will set you back R25).It’s loads of fun for kids. We got in at 8am and left after 5.Highly recommended!

Rob I — Google review

I took my niece on Friday, 8 April 2022, her first time. It was enjoyable. It wasn't too busy. We paid R250 pp, that was a bit steep to be honest. She's 9yrs old, that was a bit much. We had tons of fun and made use of most of the rides. The lady at the ticketing place selling tickets for the Gold pour and the mine tour is a rude and miserable individual, certainly not the kind to be at a theme park and dealing with patrons. The gentleman at the Gold pour exhibition directed us to her to purchase our tickets. He was the most polite, friendliest people, along with the lady who did our tour of the mine. Those two deserve an accolade, they made our experience exceptional.

Jonathan G — Google review

My family and I were booked in at the theme park hotel. Staff were friendly. The hotel room was fine. As for the swimming pool water, well that was green so my husband and kids could not swim in it.My kids were thrilled to go on rides, watch 4D videos etc. However the queues are ridiculously long. Sadly there is no exception for those staying inside the theme park. It would be nice if they could give hotel residents access to the rides an hour before opening to the public. There should be a limitation on the amount of people allowed access daily into the theme park so that everyone gets to make use of the rides instead of standing tirelessly (during a heatwave) in queues to get on.People are allowed in from around 9am/9:30am but the gates to the rides aren't open so you have to start queuing already which I find really annoying. To top it off they close the gates to rides from around 4pm when the theme park closes @ 5pm. I do understand that this is within the peak season however I seriously hope management does something about this.

Zaynub N — Google review

I have very fond memories of coming here in my childhood, so I was rather excited to visit as an adult ( I'm still short, but tall enough for the rides now). Besides the historical attractions for which is famed, recent upgrades and additions have been made turning out into a proper theme park. We went on a weekday to avoid the crowd, it was still pretty busy with a few school day trips taking place and bus loads of tourists. The rides provide enormous fun for ppl of all ages. You are well catered for regarding food, as there are kiosks and restaurants dotted about. For those with no interest in the park, there is also a hotel and casino.

Seanan W — Google review

You have to buy your tickets online, which, for me, makes things more convenient. There are the friendliest guys on stilts, painted gold, wearing mining type outfits, helping and directing people to where they must go, the line at the kiosk to get the tickets wasn't long and the staff are very friendly and efficient so it moves quickly. I got in free because it was my birthday and you get a separate line for that ticket which also moved fast.... had the best day, great food available all over, the lines for the adult rides were a bit insane but I didn't go for that, walked around, explored the "city" the fun train was cool with the tunnel that turns, kinda makes it feel like the train is tipping, my son (6) had a blast on the kids rides and before we knew it the day was over.... I guess time does fly when you're having fun!

Leigh-Anne F — Google review

We had an absolute blast!!The Online Ticket booking is convenient and fast and definitely helps the queues at the entrance going very fast and efficient. The only downside of our visit was definitely the extremely long lines at the rides, we had to wait 40 minutes to an hour for the rides but I do take in consideration that it was the first day of the school holidays. It was very crowded. It's also very frustrating when the boards cleary states "no place keeping" and crowds of people move past you to their friends infront of you making you wait even longer. I do suggest that the staff be more strict about this.Other than that, all the rides worked! The staff from the gates to the operators at the rides were very friendly. The bathrooms are very clean which is very impressive if you take in account the amount of people there during the day so big thumbs up on that!Huge variety of restaurants and places to buy cool drinks and snacks during the day. It's a nice outing for friends and for the whole family with the rides and games for the kids as well.Overall nice experience!

Sune F — Google review

Gold Reef City is the most unique amusement park in Africa, but that is solely based on my opinion. I would recommend anyone to go there because there is something for everyone and the whole family can enjoy these events!FYI - When it's your birthday, you go in for free!

Willem J — Google review

Gold reef city theme park is such an amazing place to be . Especially to get that adrelline running. The place is fun and has that energetic vibe. There is rides to take your breath away... like legit for real and then you can get those calming kid friendly ride. This place is an awesome place to be Especially if u planning a family holiday. There are awesome restaurants there to fill u up before your next ride. The place has beautiful scenery Especially on the helicopter ride and the ferries wheel 🎡 .The staff there is super friendly and helpful. Can't wait to go back there again and try the rest of rides I have not been on.

Maria P — Google review

The park is very huge with a great variety of activities to explore. It has tours to the mine and demonstrations of the gold making process. There are restaurants inside. However it can get extremely busy and packed, so in such days, be ready to wait for longer periods to enjoy some of the rides and other activities.

Kabelo M — Google review

Everyone should go there. Very beautiful and fun. There are rides that are not so scary. Please wear comfort shoes when you visit Gold reef city 🤍. Enjoy😊😊Lastly , for those who want to throw their little ones a party, there is a very nice venue there.

Selaelo P — Google review

Gold Reef City has always been a popular theme park. The roller coaster rides provide your body with an adrenaline rush, making you feel alive. A scream of joy, fear, and exhilaration! The park is very clean and well maintained, and there are plenty of food stalls throughout the park for you to choose from!I would not recommend visiting the park during the holidays because there are far too many people, especially during the December holidays, and you end up standing in line for hours and only being able to ride a few of the rides! Try to go on a Thursday or Friday when it is a little quieter. Then you can truly enjoy the exciting rides!Remember to book online and to wear comfortable shoes.R250pp

Jacky J — Google review

Had a lot of fun at the Theme Park. Did the guided tour into the mine shaft which was very educational.Went on a few rides, was there on a Sunday so the queues were not too long.Best part was the anaconda, really nice roller-coaster but was over to quick :)

Amazing, thrilling, the best experience I've ever had thus far at a theme park. There is a ride for everyone. It is such a big beautiful place. Toilets are clean, their staff is friendly, they are all well trained and informative. I'd definitely go back, there is so much to explore.

Amanda N — Google review

Enjoyable games for the whole family. Lazy rides as well as heart stopping ones for thrill seekers. Kids games for all ages also. Safe for those with fears, staff all over. Restaurants and stalls for all kinds of meals or toys😏 Plus some happy hour in some restaurants and with tasty cocktails😜

Lethabo N — Google review

I had a great time here one Saturday afternoon. I really suggest coming here as early as possible because waiting times to get on rides can be as long as one hour on a bad day. Still a fun thing to do with friends or family.

awesome, no words to express the feeling. we stayed over at the hotel at the theme park. only good things to say about the staff, they are very friendly and very accommodating. the buffet breakfast was mouthwatering, delicious and lekker!!!!!

Mimi P — Google review

Had so much fun! Went for a helicopter ride, then to the amusement park. We had no idea that tickets were not sold on the premises and had to buy tickets online. There are more than enough food options and souvenir shops. Definitely buy tickets in advance.

Gold Reef City Theme Park offers an enriching blend of excitement and education, making it a perfect destination for families and thrill-seekers alike. One of its standout attractions is the hands-on science experience, where visitors can delve into the fascinating world of science through interactive exhibits. For those interested in the historical significance of mining, a pre-booked tour offers an in-depth look at mining operations, complete with educational insights and a guided tour. The park caters to both children and adults, ensuring that everyone can find something to enjoy. From exhilarating rides that get the adrenaline pumping to a variety of games, the park promises a day filled with fun and excitement. For thrill-seekers, the rides are a major draw, providing a perfect blend of fear and joy. When it's time to take a break, the park's selection of restaurants offers a variety of dining options to suit every palate. Whether you're in the mood for a quick snack or a full meal, you'll find plenty of choices to refuel and relax before diving back into the action.Overall, Gold Reef City Theme Park is a dynamic and engaging destination that combines the thrill of amusement rides with the educational value of interactive learning experiences.

Quite an affordable place to spend with family including with the small kids - 4 to 6 years old.. But kids have a height restriction for some rides and don't get to do it.. Compared to most theme parks that I know in India, Gold Reef in Jo'burg is really really cheap.. And I was quite content with going around just for the family rides, so I didn't see the point in wasting their time lining up for the A+ rides.. Sundays can be super crowded.. Try to visit at the opening hour and leave early.. Crowds swarm in after 11:30 and then even the family rides start to queue up..

Eber S — Google review

Had an amazing day out with the family. Went on a Thursday after most schools went back to school and enjoyed all kids' rides with no ques. All the ride operators were very helpful and caring of the kids.

A great theme park is always full of people around , having all the adventure rides and young children rides for all family members.Great Staff members always friendly and ready to welcome people. Parking is safe. I Rate it 100%

Solomon A — Google review

I went to Goldreef city during the school week and it was the best decision I've ever made concerning theme parks. No queues, no fuss just several school kids on a school trip and adults looking to have a fun day playing.

Mbali M — Google review

We had the absolute best time spending the day here. Remember to buy the tickets online and get there early and even when you do this, you will have to queue for wristbands to enter the theme park. I suggest doing the most popular rides early to avoid crazy long queues. I was pleasantly surprised at the amount of rides available. Lots of places to eat. Clean bathrooms. Even though the tickets are pricey, it is value for money. My kids had a blast and I felt young again.

TK — Google review

Had a fantastic, thrilling experience today. The rides make your heart beat faster. If you're a thrill and adrenaline seeker, then Gold Reef City Theme Park is the place to be

Zwelisha L — Google review

Decided to have an adults day out at the theme park. I haven't been for over 10 years, and I was pleasantly surprised by how the park still runs. The park is incredibly clean (including the toilets), the rides are fun, there are so many places to eat. The entry fee is a bit steep, but if you intend on going on all the rides then it's worth it. The food places are average priced. The only issue was the wait for the rides and for food, but we also visited on a public holiday so it was understandably busy. All in all it was a great day out. Kids love it, but expect to fork out a lot of money for the day, so budget and save wisely beforehand.

Siara M — Google review

Great day of fun! Rides for all tastes and preferences in a very cool setting, where the Joburg history comes to life. Well worth a visit. Waiting time for the rides could be improved a little, if the turnaround between rides is improved/more carts are added back to service.

Thomas M — Google review

Time moved too fast. I didn't get to enjoy all the rides I wanted to get on. Balloon Wheel is a ride for summer because the top is too cold for winter. Anaconda had a long line but it was thrilling. The Tower of Terror was not that scary but it did a number on my neck and spine. Storm Chaser and Golden Loop were slightly scary as they were the only rides that left me suspended in the air for long. I really wanted to ride on the High-flying Maverick but a problem with two of the seats meant I couldn't get to ride what I anticipated the most. The Bumper Cars were also great. The new ride Queen something is best enjoyed when seated at one end rather than the middle. Overall, it was worth every cent of the money I spent.

Lee-Winnz M — Google review

1. Go in the morning! Or else you only do 2 rides and queing the whole day.If you want to enjoy the rides, do not go on a public holiday or month end... go on a random day during the week.2. Don't carry a handbag. Be free and ready to have fun.3. They sell food.

Tsholofelo B — Google review

Fun for Everyone at Gold Reef City! This was my first time visiting Gold Reef City as a dad with my kids. It was a fantastic experience for everyone! The rides in the kid's area were clean, well-maintained, and perfect for little ones. The kids had a blast.Another big plus is the new online ticketing system. It's convenient and saves time waiting in line. However, I did notice a potential issue with redeeming tickets if someone in your group can't make it. To avoid this hassle, I recommend planning carefully and buying tickets for the exact number of people attending. If you're unsure, consider getting smaller group tickets. That way, if someone has to miss out, you can redeem the ticket on another visit. In short, Gold Reef City is a great place for a family day out. The rides, cleanliness, and online ticketing system all impressed me. Just be mindful of the ticket redemption policy when planning your trip.Oh, and no food or drinks can be “imported”.

This is a decent theme park. I am not sure why, but the rides don’t open until 9:30 despite the park opening at 9. Get there early anyway to beat the lines! Anaconda is the best ride and by far the most serious roller coaster.

Edwin W — Google review

We love going to Gold Reef City every year for a full day since my kids were 2 (I’ve had a blast without kids too), it’s a tradition. They love getting their faces painted, playing dodgems and going on all the rides. The attendants are great too.The older rides need a bit of maintenance and a fresh coat of paint.

Yogini M — Google review

It's a great place to go have fun no matter your age. There is something for everyone. If you love having the rush of adrenaline it's the perfect place to go. I would suggest though that you get there before they open because of the long queues (which are worth it). The faster ride queues move fast though. All in all the experience was great!

Sinethemba M — Google review

Had a great time!We went through on the Friday and slept over in the theme park hotel and then spent the Saturday as well. We went after the peak season so it was nice and quiet with no waiting lines which was nice for the children. All the staff that we spoke to were very friendly and accommodating. The place was so clean and well looked after. When sleeping over you get access to the park. I would suggest price wise to rather spend a night there and get access to the park for 2 days.Would definitely visit again.

Hennie P — Google review

SUPER FUN! There are dozens of rides. You do wait in long lines but they move quickly as the ride fills up. There is a science park which I really enjoyed. There are museums and ancient buildings. There is so much to explore and it is impossible to go through everything in one day. I loved it and I will be back to see the rest. The rides are crazy. With huge variety. They also have snakes in confinement before you ride the Anaconda. Everything in this place is awesome. Clean. Well maintained. There are afew food stalls with seating available. Beautiful ponds with ducks.I just love this place. I highly recommend you go here.

Tashwa — Google review

Cleverly out together, this disused open shaft mine cum now theme park caters well for children and those who are children at heart for all things playful. It's definitely not for the faint hearted and most of the rides are for the taller (above 1.5m I think) kids. There is also a kids section for the toddlers and infants.

Mzime M — Google review

I was 5 years last at Golden reef city theme park that time I fined it to be overpriced. But I was in press that there prices was affordable and you pay ones for all rides. Restaurants was also affordable. Rides are well maintained. I really enjoyed the whole day. Staff are friendly and helpful.

Whether you're a seasoned gambler or just looking for a fun night out, you won't be disappointed!

Very beautiful! A nice variant of restaurants inside like Greek, Asian, Indian, African and so on. So there's something for everyone. The casino itself looks very clean and nice. Sadly we didn't get to play. We wanted a day card to play since we only stopped by. The machine told us to get them at the cashier but after asking we could only sign up but not get a day card to play. Was a bit sad but once you're signed up I think it will be a lot of fun there. Just wasn't worth it for us for the short visit.

Melanie M — Google review

Meh, it's okay. Cinema hasn't got anything exciting. Of all the restaurants I'd only recommend Lily Asian, the salmon sushi was the best I've ever had. There's nothing really to do here. Even the magic company doesn't offer much, and the machines are giving in.

Robyn B — Google review

We to a late Saturday comedy show and had a buffet meal before. Both show and food were good and value for money. Busy atmosphere, but pity about the young kids hanging around the casino while their parents gambled.

Went to the spur for breakfast. Great staff, pleasant atmosphere. The chicken avo and bacon salad was scrumptious. I ordered ordered a half bowl and it sufficient enough for me to take home half. Staff were friendly and very attentive. Great experience.

The getaway was a pleasant one. Rested enough. To refresh at a welcoming atmosphere. The facilities are well looked after and safety protocols up to standard. But need little improvement on their breakfast menu.

Ngapane M — Google review

Always busy and a mission to enter and find parking. You rather make a reservation if you want to go to one of the restaurants for dinner or go early enough if you are a walk in.Cinema is good. Tried the 4dx. It was clean and a good experience. Not too much of walking is done. But the place does offer more than just a Casino environment.

I took my family here to eat on our last night in South Africa. We ate at Spurs, a restaurant I ate at frequently and loved as a child. It didn't disappoint. The staff were fantastic and the menu had something for everyone. My daughter and I are vegetarian so fully expected to only have salad. However there was a whole vegan menu to choose from. The steaks and ribs where a complete hit with the neat eaters and just as I remember them, huge!A great place to wonder round and loads of places to choose to eat too.

Went to watch a live show at the theatre. We sat in row F, but all rows is facing at an adequate angle towards the stage. Will recommend seats 17 -20 in each row as it has a bit more leg space. They allow food and drinks in except popcorn and hot bevarages. Friendly service at the door. Have plenty to do while you wait for the show or thereafter. No problem with parking.

Its a nice entertainment area. There's a bit of everything there. From cinema, to club vibes at news cafe. Those into casinos, there's one. A variety of restaurants can be found as well. Just remember the R10 entrance fee for your car

I have five star because it feels with lots of activities to enjoy, from the delicious meals that is served at various restaurants there to the friendly services of the staffs. It has a very big casino space, the kids have all the fun activities at the game side, adults are not left behind. The cinema gives you interesting options to enjoy your movies as VIPs, musicals are also available. Great picture locations it has beautiful water fountains, conference centresBe warned that it is usually parked full during festive seasons, you might then have to wait in line for tables to eat or to enter some places.

This facility is up to date and quality. The moment you enter you feel as if you are in a completely brand new world and all your worries disappear. This facility is a great place to distress and take a moment to spoil yourself. The only issue I have encountered was that one of the elevators weren't working and within that same are the lights were highly dim.

The hotel was amazing. The casino was awful. Rude attendants everywhere, I've never felt so put off by service in a casino anywhere. If you are coming for the hotel, a conference, or any of the amazing restaurants, it's a great experience. If there is any human interaction needed between you and casino workers, rather give another place a go.

Great place to spend some chill out time and even play the machines if you wish. Only down side is poor signage in the casino as the place is so big you can get lost easily.

GARY G — Google review

The rooms are nice and the people there are kind . Though what I rate this a 3 star is because I lost 2 pairs of glasses , and when I came to retrieve my glasses they only gave me one . I wonder where's my other ?

Situated in the heart of the OR Tambo, emperors palace is one of the most beautiful casinos in Gauteng, the atmosphere, the restaurants, the view, it is just amazing! From movie house experience, to joy ride, or food lovers and party heads, this place punches above it's weight class. So if you want to entertain your family or friends or out on a date, rest assured, you can't go wrong with emperors palace period

Agmad M — Google review

Dr Victor and the Rasta Rebels are such a vibe. They were awesome from start to finish. Most definitely want to see more of them in Emperors

James S — Google review

Awesome experience for my first time there, I was there on business and all went well until I left. The security guard at the gate is very rude, I ask him what i should do when i leave because it's my first time there, his responses were. Just wait here, GO!! he shouted with no explanation, I told him straight, do not shout at me, I am not your dog, I was furious and he messed up a perfectly good day, he was at the gate at 16h30 on Saturday 2nd of March 2025

XANDRE H — Google review

Emperors Palace always leaves my kids entertained. To top it off, the kids eat free on Sundays at Hooters is the icing on the cake. Sundays in my family have turned to Hooters-days! 😀

Shopping

The East Rand Mall is a vast shopping complex situated just 7km away from OR Tambo International Airport. The mall boasts of many popular brand-name retailers, supermarkets, and a movie theater all under one roof. Additionally, the mall has 175 stories and offers numerous entertainment options. It features spacious passages but can get overcrowded during peak hours.

Grand and beautiful mall, well kept, and has several shops you'd like. Worth a visit.

Wonder M — Google review

The mall is quite big.A smart mall too,but would've been nice if it wasn't all flat, viewing the surrounding area in it would've been nice. Love the restaurants area, pretty sure you can find your favourite restaurant there. overall it's a great Mall..

Kgaogelo C — Google review

We had an excellent experience at East Rand Mall. Lots of parking available, covered and standard. Parking wasn't expensive. Lots of security staff all over. Lots of shops and some excellent restaurants. It was spotless and very presentable. The last time I visited this mall was when I was in school. Lots of changes, and they are all great. Easy to navigate as well. Very impressive 👏

Steven H — Google review

One of thee great malls in Gauteng Province. Huge enough to get all you want yet not get lost. A number of entrances/exit. You won't easily loose your car parking area as well. Peace of mind security wise. Parking price a bit high though😀. 5/7min drive to OR Tambo International Airport...about 5min drive to Emperors Palace. 20/30min to Carnival City.

Luvuyo G — Google review

It's beautiful, it's big nice and clean, many shops, some I never knew existed 🤣🤣 it has some important shops like pick n pay Dischem, Edgars, Telkom shop amongst many.

Lungile V — Google review

The East Rand Mall is a great place to shop. There is a huge selection of stores and plenty of secure parking. The passages are wide and spacious but can get quite crowded when the mall is very busy. Be sure to wear your step counter because you're sure to get your 10 000 steps in here! The mall is all on one level so no escalators or lifts to navigate, except from one of the multi-level parking areas and there are large wheelchair friendly ramps wherever there are a few steps.

Christie-Lee K — Google review

Wow! Very nice spacious mall with a variety of franchises operating there. Good deals all over, you don't have to go around to other outlets or malls. Food outlets can be found who can provide a variety of tastes. There cherry of it all is the cinema which has the latest releases in terms of entertainment.

Lesley T — Google review

Wonderful shopping experience. It's so nice to have Milky Lane back, and old time favorite, smaller than when they were by the movie section, but still same great taste. Sneaker factory also a great new edition of the TFG Group, Multiple brands of tekkies at affordable prices 👌

Mohammed M — Google review

The mall is a shopper's paradise! It houses a vast array of stores, from popular brands to boutique shops, catering to all tastes and budgets. Ample parking, clean facilities, and a variety of dining options. Family-friendly with entertainment options like a cinema. A one-stop destination for shopping, dining, and entertainment!

Charlotte S — Google review

Very good store selection. Parking ticket pay machines need to be upgraded, they still battle to take new money notes. Toilets look pretty with door wraps to brighten up the space, but not very clean by cinema side. Would hope to see more for kids to do here in school holidays other then the cinema and go karting outside in parking lot area. I love that they always trying to upgrade this mall and give it a face-lift.

Holly L — Google review

Dear East Rand Mall Management,As a frequent visitor, I have always appreciated the variety of stores and the convenience your mall offers. And I must say the mall used to be extremely busy! However, recently visiting the mall is a frustration. The new parking pay points are a mess, there use to be at least two pay points at every entrance, but you guys have removed that, that makes exacting the mall a real frustration! The undercover parking lot at entrance 4 is being used as a storage facility for old shop equipment. This issue not only detracts from the overall experience not even to mention the appearance of the mall, but also poses a safety hazard to your patrons. I noticed that at another section of the undercover parking is another spot where the old pay points are just stacked. The ongoing construction work within the mall is causing significant inconvenience. While I understand that renovations are necessary to improve facilities, the current state of disarray, with so much dust and excessive noise, makes shopping at the mall a stressful experience. Better management of the construction areas would greatly help alleviate some of these issues. The constant dust is defiantly a health risk for all the surrounding shops and customers.I enjoy going to Mugg and Bean, but how can one sit and enjoy lunch in dust and a noise! Clearly you guys have no consideration for your tenants or your customers. I have phoned central management numerous times complaining about the dust and noise going on at the Checkers construction site and nothing gets done about it!Lastly, I have found the bathrooms to be consistently dirty and poorly stocked, especially the bathrooms close to Spur. Clean and hygienic restrooms are a basic expectation in any public facility, This does not only reflect poorly on the mall’s management but also raises health concerns.Shopping at East Rand mall use to be a pleasant shopping experience, the Mall use to be so busy that one can hardly find a parking space, but one can clearly see how that is changing. When you visit surrounding Malls the Malls are buys and getting in and out of the Mall is not a headache, I wish I can say the same about East Rand Mall.

Samantha B — Google review

Good place for shopping more shops are there , clean n beautiful mall ever with nice view

THENDO B — Google review

Cadillac burger, second weekend in a row... NOT again! It's massive and I wanted to BURST afterwards. While also being upset about being too full to enjoy my ice cream immediately!Pizzas and toasties are great too! 2 thumbs up for value for money and quality!

Renier F — Google review

I had a great time at the mall, most shops close late, a variety of shops and a good experience. The parking payment kiosk is outed for such a big modern mall. They need to upgrade them to allow card facilities.

Timothy M — Google review

We went to Game Stores in East Rand Mall. The service was magnificent. The staff went all out to help us. We needed to go to different departments within the store, and each person we dealt with was pleasant. You can tell process integration works very well at Game Stores!

Nosipho M — Google review

Great mall. It's an all you want type of mall. Need furniture, need groceries, pet supplies, clothes, homeward shopping, entertainment. Can't even mention all they have, go check it out for yourself. It's in Boksburg, and there's easy access to transport.

Zaytoon S — Google review

Big and beautiful and totally upgraded. Lovely restaurants and every shop you could wish for. Lots of excellent undercover parking.

Agatha F — Google review

When you are in the East Rand this is definitely a place to visit. The vibe in the mall is electrifying. There are a very wide range of shops. The entertainment area for kids is excellent, you can leave your kids there and they have supervision. The restaurant around the mall is of high quality. And the walkways are wide enough to accommodate a lot of people. The atmosphere around the mall is amazing.

Jan-Hendrik W — Google review

I always loved East Rand mall. And loved to come here. But since they put in the new ticket system it's chaos we have been sitting here for 25 minutes and can't get out of the mall. I feel bad for the business owners renting in this mall. For management it's all about the money! We have 2 small children in this warm car!!! Ridiculous

Lorraine B — Google review

BEWARE: The ticket machines to pay for parking doesn’t work. The helpful guys (wearing all black) giving advice at the machine about using your credit card will grab it. They lure you to another machine on the other side of the mall. They work in three’s where one grabs you from behind and the other grabs your card from you. The third is extra and lookout. Then they work extremely fast (within minutes) to max it out.

Wilna B — Google review

The mall is big and you must be prepared to walk more special if you park on the northern side and you want shops that are in southern side. It's a long walk hahaha. East Rand Mall parking please reduce parking price

Derrick M — Google review

I had an exceptional experience at East Rand Mall! This place is impressively spacious and impeccably clean. You can find anything you're looking for, thanks to the diverse range of shops. A perfect destination for a satisfying shopping spree. Definitely deserving of a 5-star rating!"

Evarice C — Google review

It's really a lovely simple mall near the free-way where you can do your groceries, shop for clothing or get last minute gifts and stuff before your flight because it's near O.R Tambo . It's very convenient on how you can get your car washed on the parking spot you chose for a cheap price, although they really need to work on their ticket bots because it rejects the card 2-3 times even if you paid it off

Ngudofire M — Google review

All shops under one roof. The mall is upgraded. Shops is beautiful and is definitely more spacious. I like the idea that the mall is solar powered. That means that power outages won't affect shopping. Much security makes one fee safe while shopping. The rest rooms is clean an beautifully maintained. The great variety of eateries and restaurants. The parking area is safe. A pleasant shopping experience.

Debbie W — Google review

East Rand Mall with its dazzling view as you look it on the out side so it does with diverse stores in it, likely the customers are satisfied for most the range of products they come for. It has a quite a number of stores taking hours that you would finish it

Axola M — Google review

Great shopping experience, friendly security staff, you can find all popular shops and brands, very safe and clean

Briaton B — Google review

Exemplary shopping mall. Wide variety of shops. Lovely atmosphere and clean environment. Loved the gym, the sales team there are above par. The equipment is solid especially the premium facility. Hoping for more diversified food stalls, the products and shops. Highly recommended

Kelvyn K — Google review

I'm almost certain all malls are designed envisioned and built by the same person/s.. experience is the same, bathrooms are the same lighting and decor is the same. Maybe I'm thirsting for too much newness but everything is so old and regular these days. Creative and out-there is needed. Enough safe. Need a bit more new and fresh, and exotic dangerously raw and coloring outside the lines from time to time. I'm not even sure what can be done different, access control and parking needs new life. Can some daring entrepreneurs save us, ok, me, from all this run-of-mill stuff please.

Wonderful mall😍😍😍I’ve only been here once and our experience was wonderful. Parking is very convenient.

Maryam M — Google review

It is a very big mall and has majority of the stores you would expect from a mall. The is undercover parking and outdoor parking.Strange thing though but they lock majority of the sliding doors at night…. I parked upstairs and didn’t know how to get out lol. Eventually I got help.

Fun & Games

Carnival City Casino and Entertainment World is an exciting resort located in a circus-themed complex. It boasts a range of dining options, event venues, gaming facilities and spa services. The establishment follows strict COVID-19 protocols to ensure the safety of its visitors. However, it charges R10 per person on weekends which may be unexpected for those on a tight budget or travelling with a large group.

This year I went to Carnival City twice. I must say that environment at the restuarants, particularly the Spur was conducive and accommodating to the type of informal - yet critical - business engagement I needed to have at very short notice. The staff were excellent. The management understood my needs and delivered per excellence! I shall return 👌🏽

Tumaole M — Google review

Good COVID 19 protocol followed. R10 per person entrance on weekends is relatively new and can throw people off especially if you're on a budget with 5 plus people in your car. Overall, it is clean, great service from different shops and the outside area with the rides is well controlled and relatively safe. Definitely worth going for play dates.

Thobile D — Google review

Really nice place and design but over crowded with people. You can barely walk outside the casino, there's just too much going on. But I really loved the design of the place and the casino inside wasn't too bad. I just lost a lot of money 🤣 so you're welcome! They have the usual set up of restaurants, movies and the casino.

Urisha P — Google review

Calistos definitely my favourite place to enjoy some seafood. Had a date with the kids. One of our favourite restaurants. The kids always have a blast at the fun company, with a variety of arcade games and outdoor game.

Kholeka K — Google review

It’s a nice mall with lots of activities to do. It’s very kid friendly and a quite a few restaurants to eat from. There’s an entrance fee of R20 per vehicle. Plenty of parking as well. You don’t have to call first to book for games. Just buy tickets when you arrive there.

Mahlatse P — Google review

The machines has been changed, site looks clean n awesome. I did lost my phone n within few minutes security manage to find it.Actually the Casino has completely changed to the greatness. Everytime i visit Carnival City i fill like it's my first day. Keep on giving us good n quality service.

Charles L — Google review

Wonderful place for individuals and families gathering for a variety of activities of enjoyment. Wonderful management team, workforce as well as security personnel. The place is always running despite the challenges posed by persistent load shedding. The addition of an Ice Ring on top of a variety of restaurants, kids indoor and outdoor play center, the Cinema as well as live musical events makes the place an ideal place to choose whilst in the East Rand. Carnival City Casino is a true definition of Ekhurhuleni (A place of calmness and peace).

Richard H — Google review

Such a gem and great value for money. Innocent was very friendly and helpful and went the extra mile to help us secure a room upgrade. Rooms are surprisingly big, especially coming to Carnival City straight after the Cabanas at Sun City. Just wish the smoking policy would be better enforced as smokers don't seem to realize it's a public space around the pool

Peter O — Google review

Nice place to be whether alone or with family & friends. There is Cinema for movies, restaurants and games for children. The place has convenient working hours with other facilities running 24 hours. It is also situated conveniently along N17 with an affordable hotel within the premises. Spacious parking with access controlled entrance makes it safe & ideal. It's very ideal for a one-stop family treat

Your music is terrible, it is by far also to loud, Your announcers microphone is erritating high. We are not all old age people, please go to Ceasars and hear the difference. Set your sound lower and people don't have to scream when they talk.

Thoroughly enjoyed the game section. During busy times there could be additional hands to assist with the ticket counting machines perhaps. Only three out of 8 points were in order.

Amazing place to be for all ages, kids can live their best life with all the entertainment on offer from bowling to fun fair rides and movies and more. While the parents can try their luck on the casino floor. A must for all your family entertainment.

Henry C — Google review

Great place for the kids to just enjoy an outing. It is also a good place to hang out as adults as there's a Casino and a casino here. They also tend to host some concerts and events here . Highly recommend.

MIRRIAM M — Google review

Carnival City is still the best place to be, the only challenge of going there during the week is the queue for entering the premises where you have to pay a fee...you'll only find 1 boom gate is working in that day...everything else is incredible!!!...if you've never been there, try it out.

Sabelo — Google review

Great time as always at Carnival, the only sad part is all the beautiful water features are gone, most noticeably at the front entrance. The bowling and arcade games are much better with the renovations done but sadly it feels as if it's missing something, especially by the casino side. The maintenance is also not being done at all as all the paint is faded.Bowling was at least 5 stars.

Keanan M — Google review

Carnival City is the place to be. Filled with lots of excitement and entertainment. The food is excellent. Lots of restaurants to choose from. Kids and Adults can have a fun filled day. Took my daughter for her birthday and she loved it. She said it was her best birthday so far. Had lots of fun. Plenty to do and alot of food choices.

Maritza V — Google review

It's amazing and super affordable, really! The tokens are as cheap as R2 so for R100 you get 50 tokens and your child can play at their own pace. They now have an extended playing area which was a small area when I last went in 2021 whereby game tickets start from as little as R10. I swear, it is now a mini Goldreef city 😍. I loved the experience and entertainment which is what keep us going back with my friends and family.

Precious M — Google review

It was an awesome experience,we had a blast.Only disappointing factor were the toilets by the fun park. They stink, half don't work dirty and just disgusting. Please do something!

It's a great place if you want to go out with your loved ones. The service of the workers is excellent, 2 weeks ago I lost my cellphone at magic store but lucky enough I found it the next day. I received a call from one of the workers telling me to come and collect my phone.

Mduduzi M — Google review

Casino I give 1 star, they don't play fair and it is a total money making scam. Its nice upmarket complex, but avoid the casino. I concluded after speaking to players and watching some games that the casino does not play fair and I an absolute money making scam. The complex by itself regarding entertainment and restaurants I will give 5 stars in writing. But a casino that cheats and scams only gets a dissapointing 1 star. To reply to your answer... Yes gambling is a game of chance, although not so much for the players when playing against computers and algorithms managed and programmed by the casino, go sell the story somewhere else, your not speaking to an uninformed entity sir. Any player can go watch hours of videos posted by big players, explaining exactly how the casinos work. You know exactly what you are doing and don't try and smoke screen it with the gambling board association. Just remember one thing, you have a hand in destroying life's by facilitating people's addiction and doing so in a dishonest way and that goes for all the casinos. Keep well.

Love the lights and paintings as well the circus theme and a good job with out door section with the rides for kids and adults unfortunately for the jungle gym that charges entry whereas it used to be free when first built. Can be crowded at times but still lots of fun to have to have here.

Zunaid K — Google review

Thoroughly enjoyed it. Having a suitable variety of entertainment fpr my family while I wrestle with lady luck is a truly filfilling feeling. I even gave some of their games a go and have to admit I enjoyed it.

Liam L — Google review

Casino floor was busy but well kept. Found it problematic to find a seat and machine to play on. Way too many people sitting at machines not playing but spectating or waiting for there friends or family. Really creates a bad vibe as you have to always ask them to please move and you get a death stare from them as if you have done them an injustice.

Andrew B — Google review

It's was my second time there... I'm not really for playing the slots. I think they should upgrade the place a little, especially the food court area. Very huge and allot to see and beautiful.

Kim R — Google review

I was at the establishment on the 8th of June around 7pm with my partner and our 8 month old. I accidentally did not lock my car in the parking as the sensor might have not picked it up since we were in a rush to go in as it was quite chilly outside for the baby. We stayed for about 3 hours and on our way back to the car we notice there are 2 securities in a fedelity car outside our car. Apon arrival they say they saw the car was not locked (which is strange as how do you single out a car in a packed parking lot and see that it's not locked - all the lights were off) he then proceeds to show me pictures of them opening the car and checking what was inside. (I honestly think they did not expect us to find them there as they were jumpy) I check inside my cup holder there was R500 Notes there and they are gone. I ask and they gave me a silly answer of "Someone must have taken it" mind you the money was wrapped in the ticket that we get from the gate and funny enough the ticket was neatly placed back inside the cup holder. If it was a random person taking chances they would not have the time to leave the ticket so neatly. I could not engage as my baby was very fussy and we just had to leave as it was really cold for him. It's honestly disturbing that the securities of such an establishment would be the ones who are stealing from the patrons instead of protecting them.UTTERLY DISAPPOINTED!!!!!!

Free parking close to various entrances. Variety of stores. Car guards are polite. A few restaurants. Springs Mall has most if what one would need so no need to drive around. A shoe repair shop is needed in the Mall.

Good mall, very clean and secure, guards are friendly and helpful. I like that it has most major stores that you would need. It's quite big, though, and might be tricky on directions. It seems to cater to most people. 😀

If you were stopping to grab a quick meal, you might just decide to stay a while taken by the view! It's magnificent 👌 world class design. They have every shop you may need and fun for children. I love it there.

The Springs mall management instructed ubars and bolts to drop us far from the shops we going to, I am using the crushes the mall doesn't allow ubar or bolt to drop me next to Standard bank, this is sad and it's violated my rights, that really needs to be fixed we pay for our ubar & bolts it's not fair to have dropping points, specially to us who are unable to walk long distance. We don't use taxis because we are unable to walk long distance due to medical conditions

For someone who's claustrophobic like myself, I find Springs Mall a better place to shop. Its hardly overcrowded; the environment is well maintained in terms of hygiene as well. Awesome guards who are always open to assist!

Nice mall with a very nice Floorplan, though it could be better if there was increased security in the back parking area as a lot of items were stolen from unlocked cars, so I would recommend double checking if your car is locked if you use that parking

Khumo S — Google review

This mall is not too small, nor too big. Designed right and well ventilated. Has a feeling of safety and peace. Visit the food court for some good chow.

Kobedi M — Google review

Beautiful mall with variety of shops. Clean and you do your shopping in peace.

Angel M — Google review

My experience at Springs mall seeing security guards abusing elderly ppl parked at the entrance just so the lady can be able to get be lifted to her wheelchair. I'm disgusted by this act they didn't even show compassion instead of them assisting they are screaming and pointing at poor ppl . What gives your guards so much power to abuse customers because apart from this incident Springs mall guards are very disrespectful

Phumi T — Google review

A convenient shopping destination. Relatively safe, easy access and mostly friendly and helpful staff. Bathrooms can be smelly late evenings especially the one closest to the gym on the second floor.

Tiger wheel and Tyre at Springs Mall are very honest and helpful, I was there on Saturday and Dennis told to get something else fixed on my car then come back and he will help me.He could have just kept quiet and taken my money but he was honest and never took my money.Thank you Tiger wheel and Tyre (Dennis)You guys roclLara

The Suikerbosrand Nature Reserve is a 11595 hectare reserve located in the Mpumalanga province of South Africa. The reserve has three different hiking trails, and is home to a variety of wildlife including monkeys, zebras, buffalo and antelope. The entrance fee plus car fee payable at the gate via card makes it accessible to all, and there are wheelchair-friendly paths.

It was a beautiful weekend. Went on a 10km hike with my friends. The trail? doable but the steepness? One really needs good hiking shoes, a walking stick, a hat, enough water & sunscreen. 100% enjoyed it.

Adolphine N — Google review

Excellent hiking trail and well-marked. I took the 17KM trail. I found it moderate, but some may find it hard, especially the climbs. Peaceful hike with great views. Some stretches were overgrown due to the rain, but overall the trail is well-maintained and I felt safe. I saw a jackal, which was nice. I'm definitely going back soon.

Tshepang M — Google review

Absolutely amazing. Great value for money. Safe and secure. Entrance fee plus car fee payable at gate via card. 3 Different Hike options/trails. Beautiful scenery. Good for kids and beginners. After Hike we took a spectacular 66km drive in the nature reserve and saw troops of monkeys, zebras, buffalo and antelope. I recommend snacks for the car as it is a full/half day experience. There was wheelchair friendly paths however I did not review them. I was stunned to find such a hidden gem!

Christine L — Google review

I went for a hike here with some friends. The entrance fee was atound 50 per person and around 30 for vehicle access. We could not use cash when we visited. Therewildlife to be seen and there is not much here besides the hikes and a self drive around. However, it seems excellent for cycling, and there were quite a few cyclists. It is very safe. The park is beautiful, and the hiking trail is excellent. There is almost no litter at all. The hike is a good deal harder than hennops and cradlemoon, so be warned. iMy watch tells me it was an 1800m elevation ii over 11.7 km. I would highly recommend this to anyone who likes hiking. FYI, there is no implacable implacable implacable iiiiiito one one 6666⁶66666or drinks here. I imagine it could get very hot here. There is very little cover during the majority of the hike so hats and sunscreen highly advised.

Neil — Google review

😀We had a great Saturday walk, most people we met along the way thought we will never finish the 10 km trail (never judge a book by it's cover indeed sometimes). We completed the 10 km walk in 3hrs.Me and my 9 year old we finished the trail without any complaints (I guess we are fit a little bit), and I was having the 4 year old on my piggy back for 9 km.

Thando S — Google review

Good scenic trail they offer 10km and 17km, and they have a picnic place to chill after the hike. Best advise wear proper hiking boots/good trainers with a grip the trail gets slippery especially after the rains and it's also Rocky

Liz M — Google review

What a lovely place! The 10 km or above 10 km hike routes are no joke. Not for the faint hearted. You have to be very fit to do them or you will take verrrrry long. Extra hot sunny days makes it more tough.Other than that, it is beautiful and green. I enjoyed the 10 km alot, will do it again this year. Saw some animals in the distance. R80 entry fee, we could only pay by card

Grizelda L — Google review

The kids and myself love this hiking spot, great place to hang out for the entire day, hike, walk, game drive, museum, play area n braai facilities buildings and signages needs attention, entrance n main office, on trial etc

Sher S — Google review

The 10 kilometres trail is challenging with about 400-450m elevation gain. It’s marked, but I felt like some spots also needed markings in between. There’s no shops so you have to bring your own snacks and drinks. There’s braai area available to use so you can have a nice picnic with family afterwards. They don’t sell anything so bring everything you want to eat 👊🏽. There’s guards at the main entrance, then plenty of parking inside. Overall, I am gonna go back again, it’s good.

Nonosi N — Google review

An amazing nature reserve. Real gem hidden close to joburg with great trails, a lovely picnic area and a quaint little museum. Even has a wheelchair friendly short trail. Worth a day trip certainly

Gregg B — Google review

It's a PROPER hike. While 11.5kms is not far, the trail goes uphill and down, quite a lot and makes for a wonderful workout in nature. The buildings are not well maintained unfortunately. What I liked:-very close to JHB and +- 1hr drive from Sandton.-well marked and easy to follow.-small antelope visible-nice cardio workoutThings to consider:-it's a proper workout and the 11.5km trail may be challenging for the unfit and children.- take EVERYTHING with you. There is no shop nor restaurant at the facility.-take it easy on the ups and downs. Quite a climb with my hiking pole coming in very handy. Most importantly, have fun!

DeWitt B — Google review

Suikerbosrand Nature Reserve is the most peaceful place that I've ever visited. It is completely silent and you do not see signs of civilisation while you're hiking. So you feel like you're far away from Johannesburg, but the city is less than an hour away. It's only 20 minutes away from The Glen Shopping Centre in Oakdene and about 25 minutes from Klipriviersberg Nature Reserve. If you're hiking in summer bring lots of cold water, if you can freeze it it's even better. It's hot in Suikerbosrand. The hills are layed out on a vast landscape, walking here feels like a meditation.

Nonhanhla N — Google review

Beautiful, large nature reserve with day and overnight hikes and a 55 km cycling/driving route to explore the valleys and pleateau. The highest point in Gauteng is situated in the reserve.Sadly many of the previous facilities such as an info centre, the alternative entrance gate and picnic sites are poorly maintained and an eyesore. Make sure to take everything you need to enjoy a day out.

Joshua W — Google review

Suikerbosrand Hike : I would advise skipping the 10km and more routes if you are not an active person. A stunningly clean facility and hike, with a view that must span 100s km to my best guess. The hike is incredibly tough though with unrelenting uphills, which will drain you to the end of the hike. Entry is very affordable, and staff was so kind, even handing out free maps, the downside came in sitting in a queue that took probably 30 minutes to pass, despite it only being about 5 cars in front of us. There is no drinks or food for sale on the site neither. Despite this I enjoyed the hike, and the odd cigarettes butt or tissue on the trail is still far less than other routes Ive been on, not to mention smokers should take the blame, not the site itself. Animal life was sadly rather scarce, as I only saw one bird that I couldnt find in JHB, and some baboons and butterflies.

Jordan T — Google review

The biggest herd of Eland we have ever seen. Stunning now that it is getting greener. Great cycling practice for hubby (insane inclines - but he loves it). Loses one star just because there does not seem to be any maintenance happening. Entrance especially is full of weeds and not all that appealing looking... but don't be put off, it's a lovely spot in side.

Kerry-Ann T — Google review

So much wasted potential. The tourist route is great for cycling. Safe and with a very good route. There is so much potential to make this a real hotspot for running, cycling and hiking but mismanagement means it won't get there

Robert M — Google review

Gorgeous views with well kept pathways and loads of stop breaks with dustbins... Will definitely do this walk again

Meggan M — Google review

Great hiking experience at Suikerbosrand thanks to Mr. Buthelezi who went out of his way to help us. The hike itself was beautiful, with amazing views over the Suikerbosrand valley and stunning wildlife. We hiked an overnight trail and slept in the springbok hut. There is a roofed braai area with enough seating, outside tap, hut with 3 rooms and mattresses. Also a room outside with a toilet, basin and shower. They also have a service where they take your extra luggage to the hut if needed. I just wish they had more information online about the different huts and rules. We booked in advanced and there was some miscommunication over where we are allowed to park our vehicles. We wanted to keep one vehicle at the hut since one lady was not hiking with us the first day, but only the second, since the first day hike was a bit tuff and she is diabetic. We areanged this in advance, but when we got there, they told us that it is not allowed to keep a vehicle at the hut. When we booked, we asked for a confirmation email or reference number, but they said they don't do email. However when we got there, Mr. Buthelezi asked us where our email correspondence was. A lot of miscommunication, but luckily when we arrived Mr. Buthelezi helped us sort it out. I will post some images of the springbokhut for those interested, since there is no images of the springbok hut online.

Gideon M — Google review

Intermediate hike, and I say that because it’s a bit rocky and steep for most of the hike so you get tired easily. We saw a baboon on our hike and a lot of little insects. The markings are there but not very clear and the map they provide is not really the greatest either. We went March 2024 and they DON’T accept cash, card payment only. Entrance fee was R45pp AND R35 per car.Come with a sun hat as the routes aren’t shaded for the most part.

Tsholo M — Google review

What a wonderful, well-kept secret. I wish the failure of provincial government was not so stark though. The place is falling to pieces with zero maintenance and the litter on the trails, in the parking lot and picnic area was very disappointing. However, in saying this, the hikes are challenging with a few to choose from.Paradise for cyclists as there is plenty of space for them to ride in freedom and lower risk from motorists. The staff at the main gate were friendly. We were given an information pamphlet at the gate. While fairly informative, the pamphlet was carelessly put together, with a page missing but another one duplicated. It took us (and several other guests) a few minutes to find out where the trails start as the signage is faded and very poor. Once you find your way all is well and the trails are more than adequately marked.I do feel that it is worth the visit, I just wish that effort was put in by those who have been trusted to do so. You have failed and are allowing a gem to decay! A little effort can change everything.

Heather R — Google review

Didn't know what to expect and cyclists, hikers, serious and less determined health fanatics, this is the place to go. Ample play area for kids too. There is also a museum.

Nelmari C — Google review

Great trails 2 downsides , facilities are run down and not taken care of, it’s nasty to see the amount of toilet paper 🤢 on the trails. Create more awareness on keeping it clean.

Their attention to detail is outstanding. A teaspoon in hot water to scoop out the honey is as good as it gets. Nuts to deshell while waiting and toys for the little ons to play in the fountain with. Good food, good service and so many nice things to admire.

This place is so lovely. There's so much to see and they aren't shy with their portions❤️ The little birds will come right onto your table for a crumb of cake and honestly I adore that. This place reminds me a lot of those Ugly Duckling shops you find in the touristy destinations. I'd definitely recommend coming here for a nice morning visit

Are you looking for a restaurant in Heidelberg? Look no further than Diamante en Goud. You won't be disappointed. This little gem has a peaceful calming factor the moment you walk in. The food was great and the coffee was even better. If you are struggling to find a restaurant in Heidelberg I would highly recommend Diamante en goud. We had a gem of a waiter. We will Def be coming back. We love finding little gem of restaurants and this lived up to its name. Thanks for a great morning of breakfast and coffee with friends and family.

This is my favourite coffee, bric and brac and jewellery shop. Love the boskoffie, apple pie, and lemon meringue. Beautiful jewellery, antiques, delicious homemade jams, etc, and the friendliest of staff. A must place to visit spending a few hours enjoying the fresh Heidelberg air, the twittering of birds, the silky chickens, and the tortoise.

One of the most special places we have ever been. The lions roaring at night is indescribable amazing. The Lion House has everything you need. You can walk around and see the lions up close. Ѕтєllαh M — Google review

The most beautiful Serene views. We had a great time and the Dam is so clean. Loved the kayaking and look forward to a visit in summer to do more water sports. Thr mountain reserve hikes are worth the effort. Views are exceptional. History is so interesting for younger ones to appreciate.

Shantal M — Google review

The area is stunning, the perfect outdoor environment thats not too far from joburg BUT the chalets are not good, they need major remodeling because you literally need to bring your own everything from bedsheets to plates, as if you were camping but got given an empty house to sleep in, even your own pillows because the ones that they have is rather gross. Is basically just need major interior refurbishment. Perhaps camp there untill they sort their chalets out.

Anja A — Google review

The views all round are spectacular! Chalets are basic, some camping sites power supply were not working. Campers’ ablution facilities well maintained, with hot water throughout. Plenty of showers, a lot actually. And even bathtubs to boot! It gets quite cold during the night, even during peak summer - so budget for plenty firewood. Lots of possibilities for hiking and fishing. Some game - mostly boks.

Mpho M — Google review

Peaceful, tranquil and secenic. The Chalets r very basic. Bring ur own bedding, cutlery and crockery as there is very little. Also dishwashing liquid is a must. Bring extra blankets as it gets very cold. There is a shop that sells fire wood.

Naazia S — Google review

What a beautiful place! Ablutions were not clean when we arrived (although not bad) and there was no hot water. To be fair we had not booked in advance and we were the only campers. However when I contacted the manager, Mr Mofokeng, he personally came and spoke with us, and they got the hot water going in the ladies ablutions so we showered there. However noone came to clean, neither that day or the next. The guy who was supposed to cut the grass was a disgrace though. Cut 6 sites in 2 days, the size of a townhouse lawn. And there was tall grass everywhere. All that said, we will probably be back.....

Hans H — Google review

What a waste of time and money!! First thing was I had to look for people to give me my key, imagine! I drove up and down looking for someone with the key to my chalet and only got my key 30 minutes later. Second, the place is so outdated. No cutlery, no home essentials that you normally get ANYWHERE you book a chalet. Third, the place is so filthy, no human should be subjected to this and they said they cleaned😂 wow! Then, I raised my concerns with management and the manager Mr Kgodumo said he'll come by my chalet at 10pm to hear what I have to say coz apparently he's too busy to hear me out. No maintenance at all guys. Don't get me started on the kitchen, only 2 stove tops work, the kettle is broken and that's about all that works. The bathroom? Rather take a swim im the dam. DO NOT BOOK THIS PLACE!! STAY AT HOME! Don't waste your money on this place.

Reitumetse M — Google review

The accommodation does not make anyone want to come and visit, but the views are incredible especially on the dam's banks. The reserve needs a lot of investment as it does have a potential of becoming something big for tourism.

What a wonderful place for kids & kids-at-heart! We stopped by as a corporate group and had a fantastic experience. We tried the bridge swinging, ziplining, bungee bouncing & target shooting. Comfort zones were left behind and we had a good hit of adrenaline - especially on the bridge swing! The bungee bounce was also a fun and unusual experience, jumping on a trampoline but attached to bungee cords - I even managed a back flip! So much fun and the staff were just excellent. It has a decent coffee shop too & a nice shady place to sit if you are not too keen on the activities or just need a break in-between. Highly recommend - it was a great way to break the ice and bond quickly!

The mountain biking trails that All Out Adventures offer are amazing. Whether you’re out for a joyride or looking for a gruelling climb the trail offering has something for you. The scenery is world class and at their “HQ” you can have a great cup of coffee and a delicious toasted sarmie. There are also numerous activities for all ages at the centre. Very much worth a visit.

Very overpriced, make sure you check the times R210 for 5min of jumping on a trampoline I feel ripped off and taken advantage of. There are only 10 people in total around the park, children want a second chance , we wont be back. Not worth the drive. After response from owner; why do you not advertise that it’s R210 for 5min on your price list? You are not upfront with your customers. I did engage with your staff and asked why I was not informed about this to which she kept quiet.

Spioenkop Battlefield

Sights & Landmarks

Battlefields

Spioenkop Battlefield is a historic site that witnessed a significant and tragic battle between the British and the Boers in the 1900s. The location offers stunning views from the top, with monuments that vividly depict the ferocity and futility of the encounter. Visitors are advised to come prepared with cash, comfortable shoes, sunscreen, camp chairs, and water for a two-hour hike around the area.

Incredible history.Road a bit rough especially after the rain, but we managed it with a Hyundai minibus. You need cash to pay for the entrance.

Big warning... The road there and up the mountain is rough, so be prepared and have a high car.Other than that, all I can begin this review is with the word 'wow'. Learning about the true side of South African history is an eye opener. The hike was good and maintained, given the evident low budget. The bathrooms are very clean. The view was just stunning. I wish this site was given more awareness, as this is definitely a gem with visiting. You will spend a few hours there and it is advised to bring water, snacks and a good pair of shoes. Despite the very rough a dodge path up by car, it was definitely worthwhile.Cost(cash only):R40 adultR20 pensioner

History is fascinating but the place itself needs some more info and attention.

Very educational battlesight of the battle of spieoenkop translated in a few languages to accomodate all. Various graves marking fallen soldiers and semi preserved trenches. Makes for interesting reading and worth a visit! Not far from bergville and very close to the N3, its worth a detour and if you jave time to spare or just want to take a break and take in some history.

Haunting site of a hugely significant Boer War Battle. 7.5km sand road from the main road but manageable. Many of the stones on the memorial have had a recent paint job. It's looking good on "The Kop". Easy map to follow which you receive at the gate.

The final resting place for many british soldiers, as well as a few boers. A melancholic location that deserves the respect of all who visit. The site has many monuments to look at. The access road is rather treacherous, and a vehicle with considerable ground clearance is recommended. In saying this, we were able to make it up and down in a Toyota Starlet.

Mathew M — Google review

The young lady at the gate was very friendly , welcoming and very helpful . She explained a bit about the trail her directions were clear. We had a good hike from point A till the end. Beautiful view . If you want to visit please ensure you have cash and you're wearing comfortable shoes, sunscreen is a must , camp chairs and water a necessity after the 2 hours walk around .

Great experience, just the road thorwards the site isn't suited for lower vehicles. Remember to take cash for entrance at spioenkop

Lourens K — Google review

Great battlesite, easy path to follow with the map from the gate. The map explains all the main aspects of the battle and gives good insight into the struggles of the British. Very well kept over the many years, lovely to be able to pay respect to those that have fallen. Remember to hold the torch up high.

Joshua S — Google review

The historical recollection of the battle is really impressive. There is a self-guided trail leaflet which provides a brief explanation of events.Only dirt roads lead directly to the site, making the trip bumpy, but possible in a normal car.

Keven W — Google review

R35 to enter cash only, dirt road more for SUV, 4x4, bakkies or cars with higher ground clearance. Not to say a normal car will not get you there, just slower. Forth the trip up and worth the walk around the battlefield.

Neels V — Google review

A very interesting visit. The trench the Brits dug was only 40cm deep, and when the mist lifted they lay exposed to the Boers. How important is communication. When General Woodgate succumbed to his wounds, they lost direction and in the end lost the battle. The site is a little overgrown, may be due to the good rains this season.

Blaine O — Google review

Very interesting place, just keep in mind you need to get there via a sand road and it could been better if you do it with a guide, self guided is fine, it just gets a bit confusing

Jesse R — Google review

The site is well laid out and extremely interesting BUT there was not a single sign pointing there from the main roads so we spent three hours driving around on shocking dirt roads. Even our GPS sent us to two wrong sites before we eventually found it. When I queried it at the gate the attendant just sighed and agreed that Yes there were no signs. For one of the Boer war major sites I found this very sad.

Vivienne H — Google review

So much history in one place. This beautiful location was the stage for one of the bloodiest, and ultimately fruitless, encounters between the British and the Boers during the 1900's. The views from the top are stunning, and the monuments tell the story of a battle that was ferocious, bewildering and so tragically pointless. For history buffs and normal travellers alike, a trip up to Spionkop Battelfield is one you will never forget.

What an amazing place to go camping. The ablution facilities were absolutely spotless, the views magnificent, the water in the dam, super clean and the animals were a sight to behold. I'd recommend anyone to go camping here. If it's peace and tranquility you're looking for, then this is the perfect place to escape to. It's inexpensive to set up camp and stay a few nights. It's worth every cent, getting out of the city and far from the madding crowds.

One of the best camping experience we had in a long time. Stuff is great and very friendly. Toilets and shower areas is very clean will definitely recommend this camp site to everyone... see y'all soon.

Jean S — Google review

We had the camp site to our selves and what a show the wild game put on. In the evening the zebra, wilder beast came down to drink as if we were not even there. The ablutions were very well kept. A most enjoyable stay.

The toilet facilities are quite disgusting and an embarrassment to our parks

I had a lovely experience at Spioenkop Nature Reserve. The dam is lovely for fishing. There are also wild game such as giraffe, kudu and wildebeest.Ablution facilities were also clean. The roads are not tarred and some parts can be quite tricky without a 4x4 vehicle but if you just going to the dam there is no need for a 4x4 vehicle.

Beware the road isn't labeled. It's a long off road up a mountain.Breathing taking, it's an adventure. When you start fearing you can't see anything keep driving. At the top of the gate entrance is R35pp and you given a map.The most breath taking views.Adventure Awaits!!!

Fatima G — Google review

Fantastic place for a wild getaway. Campsites are surrounded by wildebeest, zebra, impala, and all manor of wildlife. Ablutions are functional and clean, plenty hot water. Park roads are better suited to suv/bakkies

Carl S — Google review

The roads are in bad condition. I would not recommend taking a drive because the road are over grown with lots of small thorn trees scratching your car.

Trevor P — Google review

This has been a family favorite for years, well kept and easily accessible right to the waters edge. Very popular for fishing and boating.

Zayd A — Google review

We went fishing for the day and caught bass, kurper, carp and barbel. Ablutions at day visitors area were clean an functional. Roads bad, mainly due to heavy rains. We also went game viewing and saw 7 varieties.

Short visit on 27 January 2022 to see the dam at full capacity and hopefully enjoy a view of the dam wall while overflowing.Sadly there did not seem to be access to the dam wall from the road as gates were locked.Visited the Spionkop Nature Reserve, with the hopes to gain access to a closer view of the dam wall but after speaking to staff at the gate, it sadly did not sound as if there were any hiking trails to view the Dam wall in all its glory.Nature Reserve is open daily from 6am to 7pm, and they allow day-visitors and campers.

Winterton Museum

Museum

Specialty Museums

Winterton Museum is a fascinating place to visit, showcasing a variety of historical artifacts and local history. The museum features an interesting collection, including a caravan with an exceptional story behind it. Despite being underfunded and run on donations, the museum offers a great opportunity to learn about the history of the Midlands without any entrance fee. Visitors can explore items found in and around farms in the area, making it a wonderful gem for those interested in quaint country museums.

This place is quite interesting, I learnt that the group of Ben Viljoen's men had a baboon as a mascot🤣 it is well kept considering it's run on donations. Well worth adding onto your itinerary if you're looking for things to do around Winterton

Nicole J — Google review

Very informative museum. It could use some maintenance and upkeep with the displays. Having hiked Spioenkop and then seeing the history in the museum the next day was amazing. It is free to enter so it is a great place for those who are at every budget.

Abi H — Google review

What an awesome museum, sadly deteriorating very quickly. We were there 3 days apart, brooms and rakes were lying in the same place, with NO extra work done. Get a goat to 'mow' the little patches of lawn left. The lack of care and maintenance is disgusting.

Anton F — Google review

Interesting museum with lots of worthwhile things to see. The caravan and the story around it is exceptionally interesting, and well worth the visit in itself. Sadly, the premise and collection seems to be woefully underfunded.

Lovely little museum. First time seeing a very old motorhome.

A blast from the past, excellent little museum ,a small town so not a bug museum, but great info and historical values found there.

Jason B — Google review

Small museum with some interesting Boer war information. More specifically the beer war in the area of Winterton and Spionkop. The highlight for us was the first caravan that had been built by John Weston and his history.

It is a great place to learn about the history of the Midlands. A must see if you are in the area, plus there is no entrance fee.
